Dawn anticipates the violence of the sun

Contrails mark the night sky as they are blown, and reshaped into apparitions.

The beaver moon shining bright, and full of itself, rises in anticipation of becoming a bloody beaver moon in the wee hours of the morning†.

The above photo is only representative of the blood moon that will happen almost 8 hours after this post’s posting.
†There will be a full eclipse of the moon in the wee hours of the morning on 11/8/22 that will be visible from my location starting at 1:00 am. The full eclipse will be at 3:59 am. The moon will set before the eclipse ends at 6:56, close to sunrise.
Solid overcast with sleet, rain and snow where we are tonight. Sigh…
Sad state of atmospheric conditions hanging in the way of you having a bloody good time. Thanks, Maj & Sher.
Holy molly this is so cool Tim.. Sorry the conditions aren’t cooperating with your schedule. Whatever you capture will be better than most of us could hope for! loved these!
Thanks, Cindy. I can’t pull allnighters these days.
You’re welcome Tim! I hear ya! I’m actually heading to be right now. Hate this time change.
Love your “pre-game” blood moon, Tim. We have clear skies…but I do like my sleep too…
I’ve documented several blood moons. I’m not losing sleep over this one. Thanks, Bruce.
I went to try and catch the moon rising over the Sandias, and instead of turning off the stabilization on the lens, I turned the focus from auto to manual. I got real talent. At least you got some pretty shots.
That sucks. Thanks, Bruce.
Gorgeous pictures 🤗
Thanks, Gabriela.
My pleasure 🌹🌺
How are you doing? Are you going to be able to slow down a little?
Thank you for asking Tim. Very busy but I hope I slow dow during Thanksgiving. What about you?
I’m really busy right now.
Take care and good luck with everything.
Beautiful pictures!
Thanks, Inge.
The skies look a bit spooky and I like the shots of the moon too.
Thanks, Rudy.
Stunning pictures, Timothy.
Thanks, Roberta.
Early in a morning about 03 am a moon was so beautiful but I was so sleepy to picture it, just saw it from a bed and slept 😊
It peaked it’s bloody head out through the clouds at 3:00 am. Thanks, Meli.
Amazing. I love beaver moon
Thanks, Shey.
Worth staying up for the blood moon so you can catch some drops 😉
Hehehe. I got up a few times. Lots of clouds in the night. Thanks, Couriers.
Ganz schön wild geht es an eurem Himmel zu. Das Bild mit dem Blutmond ist faszinierend!
We do have wild skies. The real blood mood did make an appearance between the clouds in the wee hours of the morning. Thanks, einfachtilda.
Wow!
Those blown contrails really do look like apparitions!
They make great shapes. Thanks, Liz.
You’re welcome, Tim.
Looks like a battlefield… masterfully captured! Eclipses can wait! 😉
I got a few shots of when the moon appeared through the clouds in the wee hours. Thanks, Marina.
I hope you got a decent amount of rest! (Can’t wait to see those!)
Nothing spectacular like 2015. There were a lot of clouds, which make it interesting in some ways. I seemed to have gotten enough sleep.
Oh, I’m sure your crop is going to be a treat!
Good to hear about sleep!
Woahhhh those night shots are amazing and most people don’t realize how difficult they can be to capture. Thanks for the share Tim!
Thanks, LaShelle. Wild skies around here. We get an amazing amount of jet traffic overhead.
That’s so cool!
Amazing sky photos! We had clear skies here so I was able to see the eclipse clearly. I didn’t even have to go outside in the cold this morning.
Thanks, Brad. That’s great you got a clear view out of the cold. We had a lot of cloud cover. I got the blood moon almost fully eclipsed at 3:40 am, but at 4:00 am it was completely covered by clouds. Here are a couple of past blood moon series:

Wow! I really like the time lapse with the different “colors” of the moon. That’s something I told myself I’d try in retirement someday. It was just too cold this morning. 🙂
You do have to brave the elements.
Pretty cool look of your very own blood moon! And your skies are so dramatic.
Thanks, Nancy.
You capture some of the most beautiful skies, thanks for sharing Tim!
Thanks, Tiffany.
Clever Blood Moon…. always your skies are so dramatic.. ❤
Thanks, Sue.
Magnificent. I never tire of moon photography.
Neither do I. Thanks, Jeff.
You’re welcome, Tim.
Love this, Tim! The eclipse started around 4 am here; I was up at 4:30 and took pics until 5:30-ish. As you know, I don’t have a bazooka and I managed to prop my phone in the crook of my tree (coz my tripod blows)… this was the result https://www.instagram.com/p/Cks4Y6FLa_A/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
That’s an excellent result. My sots through the cloads look pretty much like your shot. Thanks, Dale.
You are most generous, Tim! 🙂
You got a good shot.
Thank you, my friend.
Missed it – the gravitational pull of my pillow was to strong to overcome.
Gravitating pillows happen. Thanks, Brian.
What a beautiful night sky, Tim! We had a fairly clear night last night, and saw the moon and stars. Cold though! Just shy of 30 this morning.
Thanks,Lavinia.
Did I miss it?
11/8/22 …. I don’t know when I am?
I think you would only see the beginning of the eclipse if you could see it at all. Thanks, Resa.
As always, wonderful photos!
Thanks, Dawn. Ok! “We gots to know! We gots to know!” How did Murph’s appointment go?
