Snowing lightning
With my numb, arthritic fingers, I can’t type worth beans these days. I thought I commented to Lavinia, “It’s snowing lightly now,” but auto-mistake changed whatever typo I made on “lightly” to lighting. Lavinia read it as “lightning” and replied that she had only seen “snow lightning” a few times in her life. I replied that I had never seen it. Then Deborah chimed in on snow lightning, as well. As you can see in the above photo, I made snow lightning.
All the confusion about snow lightning occurred because it snowed last night and this morning.

The moon is 98.3% full tonight. It will be 99.9% full tomorrow night. The official full moon is on Monday when it doesn’t pass the meridian. It will still be 99% full on Tuesday.

WordPress reminded me that I’ve been blogging for thirteen years. I think it’s time to retire.
Happy Blogiversary!!!!
Thanks, Leenda.
Cats: “We don’t LIKE this”.
The Snow Lightning is fabulous. A rare even, sort of Only In New Mexico.
Thanks, Susan. The cats go out in the catio and come it covered with snow.
Event. Too many back spaces/
Hah! Very cool. Love the snowing lightening 😉
And yes, the moon was muy cool tonight! I managed to capture a few decent shots.
That’s great you got some shots. Thanks, Dale.
Thanks. I shared them on Instagram. Maybe I’ll add them to a post. 😊
I love the “snow lightning” you made! I think the last time I saw any was back in Connecticut, in mid winter. We get very few thunderstorms passing directly overhead in any season here.
The kitties look like they are having fun leaving tracks in the snow. That western clear sky is gorgeous. The moon amid the clouds looks like a giant eye in the sky. You were being watched!
We have a lot of thunderstorms, but mostly in the summer. We had a pretty good thunderstorm before the rain earlier in the week, but the clouds that brought the snow were silent. Thanks, Lavinia.
Thundersnow or snow lightning happens when there is a lot of static charge around, oft caused if the storm has plenty of convection. The spring and summer thunderstorms have plenty of convection where the thunderheads climb high in the sky. Winter storms, not so much but can happen.
Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel gets very excited whenever thundersnow occurs:

Watching him reacting to thundersnow never gets old. TWC has several montages of Cantore reacting to thundershow.
Thanks, Deborah.
I “like” it when YouTube says you can only watch a video from them so you can see some advertising first.
Congratulations on the 13. You can only retire from WP when your fingers fall off completely. In six weeks, or so, (in January), it’ll be twenty in having some association with WP.
I block ads on YouTube. They started that crap with me. I started watching videos in the Duck Duck Go viewer. YouTube has since stopped giving me those notices. I simply won’t watch a video if I have to sit through ads first.
Congrats Tim! 👏🏻
Weatherman says light snowfall next week in this part of the world. As you probably will know, I’m not happy about it… 😉
I prefer snow to stay in the mountains, but I’m thankful for precipitation in any form these days. Thanks, Herman.
Hi Timothy, because WP has been such a pain with commenting lately, I’ve been using JetPack. I am discovering lots of weird auto correct changes to my comments. It is really funny sometimes.
I used to save auto-mistakes to use in poetry and songs, but it hasn’t been as funny as annoying lately. Thanks, Roberta.
Congratulations on the photo (and anniversary)… this creation of “snow lightening” – sure beats snowing lightly in my book. It is a really cool creation to begin the holiday season. We have cold weather and snow here this weekend, and it does make for a perfect setting for this time of year (even put on Christmas music!). Cheers to you and all those around you.
Christmas Music! Wow. Great way to get into the season and spirit. Which reminds me, I need to find my Jethro Tull Christmas album. Thanks, Randall.
Wow, 13 years of blogging on WP, congrats Timothy !
So, you had the first snow, the kitties looked surprised 🙂
The kitties like the snow, amazingly enough. Thanks, Rudi.
I hope you’re not seriously thinking of retiring from WP!
I’m speechless with snowing lightning!
It’s always a consideration, but I tend to plug along. Thanks, Marina.
Gooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉
Wow, Tim congratulations 🙌
Thanks, Charlotte.
Wow. Falling softly indeed. And the cloudscapes are epic.
Thanks, Shey.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen snow lightning before. I love the shots of the moon.
Thanks, Liz.
You’re welcome, Tim.
Happy Anniversary…..and thank you for all the wonderful skyscapes. I love the Beaver Moon shots….just beautiful and always love to see kitties experiencing snow:)
It’s funny how much kitties like snow. Thanks, Janet.
Amazing photos as always Tim. Congrats on the blogging. Here’s to another 13!
Hahahaha! Another 13. Very funny. But then again, I might just keep plodding along. Thanks, Miriam.
Why not! 😄
Your moon photos look like something out of science fiction stories, a wormhole or something like that. We still have snow falling in Central IL, maybe 2.5″ total.
Thanks, Brad.
Wow, congrats on 13 straight years, love seeing the kitties in the snow!!!
Thanks, Tiffany.
I’ve never heard of snow lightning! Love the moon images Tim.
Thanks, Brad.
I do love the confussion which made for amazing commentary and pictures, Tim! Happy 13th WP Anniversary Tim❣️
Thanks, Cindy.
Always Tim❣️
First, you have to put in like 25 years to be eligible for retirement, so you got 12 more years ahead 😛
second, I have seen snow lightning. Back in 2006. It was super creepy and I did not like it at all, everything was a weird color in the snow and then there was lightning and I was like NOPE and went back inside.
You can retire from blogging after five years. I’m long over do. Thanks, Nume.
WOW!
Thanks, Geoff.
Retire?
That’s a lightning thought. I hope not!
Love the first shot. That’s my tree, right? What a great shot for Gowntoons. I took it!
Is that my tree in “Vulture watching the Beaver Moon rise. Jupiter looks on.”
I stole it anyway.
Both are your trees. Thanks, Resa.
It’s such a great tree! xo
Congrats on the WordPress anniversary! That last beaver moon shot is intriguing – feel like something is drawing me to the light but something in the back of my head is telling me don’t go.
You better listen to that something in the back of your head.
Did the kitties enjoy the snow?
13 years, wow! In Judaism, when a boy turns 13, he is considered a bar mitzvah and a Jewish adult. Happy Bar Mitzvah to your blog! (Blog Mitzvah?) In any case, congrats to you and your blog.
The kitties love the snow. Blog Miszvah! I love it. I wonder if there is a way to do an ersatz circumcision on a blog?
“That’s me on the table
That’s me under the hot lights
Choosing circumcision
Was tryin’ to keep it clean
I didn’t know if I could do it
Oh no, they cut too much
They didn’t leave enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sigh
I think I thought I saw you cry”
🤣 this is an excellent blog mitzvah circumcision song parody!
I thought you might appreciate it. I can’t take full credit for the lyrics, however. Many years ago, a local radio station had a parody of Losing My Religion called Choosing Circumcision. It was hilarious. It must have died with that radio show, because I can’t find the parody anywhere on the internet. The “Oh No! They cut too much” stuck with me all these years. I don’t remember the rest of the lyrics.
“Choosing circumcision” – that is brilliant! I am so glad you resurrected this because it is too good to lose
It was a brilliant parody.
13 years that fabulous! Keep up the great blogging Tim!
Thanks, Julie.
