Hint of the solar storm at 8:30 PM
When I walked out at One after 9:09, the lower part of the sky looked clear to my naked eye. But through the camera, I could see the solar storm.
The sky was purple, looking north.

I’m so glad you got those images! I had been reading about this solar storm and how far south the “Northern Lights” could possibly be seen. They also said that a camera could capture some things that weren’t seen by the eye. I love these images from Corrales, New Mexico!

Dare I risk jinxing myself? It hasn’t been too bad this week. Yes, windy, especially by East Coast standards, but not for NM. Hang in there. I know how the relentless gales wear on the nerves.

just last night I was going through the various notes that popped out talking about the solar storm.
i feared today we would be knocked off the grid but it seems the solar storm was less spectacular this side of the rainbow.

Over on this side of the rainbow the sun was stormin’ away. I think the notion of getting know off the grid by the solar storm is just a good excuse to drum up another crises that isn’t. Government folks and news outlets thrive on crises. If there is a slight possibility of a crises, they blow the possibilities all out of proportion. The solar storm crises made for some fun fotos. That’s true, SANSA issued a report of possible interferences with the grid due to solar flares.
Your photos are exquisite. There were reports of Southern light sightings from Gansbaai in the Western Cape and Namibia, but nothing in my region.

You should be able to see all kinds of good colors in the Aurora as far north as you are. Be sure to take your phone with you. If you don’t see it with your eyes, you should through your phones camera. Thanks, Resa.
Interesting. Will definitely go outside tonight. My friend who lives in Wiarton, (3 hours north by car/population 2,000) says it’s been spectacular for a few nights now.

Amazing how the camera can capture those night lights. Was able to make it out to a nearby field and witness the event as well …well, witness through the camera lens as you mentioned, the naked eye was blind to it.
