New Dawn

Dawn

What’s that old adage, “Red sky at morning shepherds take warning”?

We had light snow most of the day. Jake and I went for a long walk in the snow this afternoon. Jake loves the cold and wet.

We visited the cranes

The Tangle Heart Tree and fellow cottonwoods

“Are you going to eat that cheez, Glenda?” “Not with you staring at it like a crazed cheezhead, Sasha!”

You can sort of see the snow falling.

Where’d the Sandias go?

Da dynamic duo doing Duo — lingo, that is.

Late breaking news. The neighbor’s tree is on fire once again. The snow is bowing the tree’s branches into the powerline. Fortunately, it’s the highline, so there is less chance of it causing a power outage.

Looks a little like Christmas.

Only one fire crew is left watching the fire. The other firemen had to respond to more fires. Wet conditions should keep the fire from spreading further into the tree. The firemen will not attempt to extinguish the fire because they could be electrocuted.

  1. I like all these varieties of lights and shades, but (sorry – your portrait is great too) the memento-mori-party-snail is mind-blowing! 😂

  2. I left for an appt today and was shocked at how much ash was on my car. I knew there was big fire faaar north of me, but ash doesn’t usually get here so fast. As always, it made for a lovely sunset – almost worth being in a jam on the freeway.

  3. Oh, snow clouds made the Sandias disappear!
I bet the cats ain’t too happy about Jake taking that place, but, don’t you look nice and cozy together.
Love that fiery dawn, walk and snow fall.
Hope that fire is out by now.

  4. That is an interesting Day of the Dead snail and shell! Where did you find that?

That molten sunrise is beautiful! No snow down at my elevation (800 feet) yet, though a mushroom hunter friend says there is snow up in the mountains, and ice. She hunts chanterelle mushrooms. Just barely above 30 degrees here before sunrise this morning. We had thin fog, but it is rising. Sky looks clear in all directions.

I see the Howlin’ Thuggin’ Jugger Cheese Cat band is still making appearances. They are entertaining!

I don’t envy your fire department.

Jake looks like a great companion dog on a cold night. He will miss Grandpa Tim when his vacation in the Bosque ends.

    • It’s part of Tristan’s rock collection. The high today was 40. Four inches of wet, heavy snow caused havoc with trees and powerlines. Thanks, Lavinia.

    • Hahahaha! We are talking about the power company. The firefighter and I commented that they should have trimmed those branches when they trimmed the branches in the tree next to it six weeks ago. But it wasn’t on their work order. Thanks, Dawn.

  5. Good grief on that whole tree/fire deal. Although, Yes, does look like Christmas.

The cheez stand-offs never get boring.

    Took Shey’s tree, love!

Great shot of the Tangle-Heart, at home.

BOY! Jake sure loves you! xx

  6. Great photo of you and your dog!! 🐾 I, too, use Duolingo – just did a lesson, in fact! Beautiful photos, and holy smokes, that fire in the tree with the power line is scary!

  7. I do hope the fire was contained okay and no injuries… Loved the snail…. Sending thoughts through your stormy weather…. At least your four-legged friends look all cosy on full tummies.. 🙂
    Sending HUGS xx

  8. You beat us for first snow. We’ve been having some crazy warm weather. My daughter’s area in California is under a red flag warning for wildfires. I love the photo of you and Jake all cozy together.

  9. I like that snail sculpture! surprised you would get fire assuming things were probably getting damp with the snowfall. Jake looks content, settling into his new home (and probably tired from the walk ha). Take care.

    • Good thing things were damp. Otherwise, that cottonwood would have gone up like tinder. Thanks, Thanks, Brian.
