Social Disease

Lyrics by Burnie Taupin. Music by Elton John. Vocals by Timothy Price

Social Disease is on Elton John’s Yellow Brick Road album, released in 1973. While I never drank, smoked, or did illegal drugs when I was a teenager (and still don’t), I loved Social Disease because I could relate to it as my peers thought I was a weirdo. Many teachers and principals told my mom I would grow up to be a no-good-for-nothing social disease. I never rebelled against my parents. I didn’t need to. They left me alone to take care of the animals and the house and irrigate the property through my teen years. But I rebelled against authority and public school. I hated both with a passion.

  1. I see the SD turned you hair blue.

Drag! Lucky it didn’t turn anything else blue.

Well, that was a fun listen, Tim. You really had the lyrics spot on!

The cats are so cheez darn cute. Were you late with the cheezies tonight? xx

  2. Tim, great song and you did good singing! Never head Social Disease! Love the purple hair. 💜 The cats are little fur people. So much personality! 📚🎶 Christine

  3. Great cover, Tim. I didn’t know the original version of Elton John but I’m sure I’ll prefer your version!

    • Thanks, Herman. The original is really good. My version is raw and rough in comparison, but it’s raw and rough, being a social disease.

    • Ahhh! I’m happy you liked the song. The cats are a never-ending source of entertainment. Thanks, Janet.

  4. A ha ha…. social disease blues! If only you really were a genuine example of social disease what a place our world would be! Love it, Tim and your singing too. Kitties all agree with me.

    • Thanks, Marina. It’s a really fun song. I had to work to hit that high D. The kitties tolerate me because I feed them and let them boss me around.

  5. These shots had me wanting to be with them, Sir. Loki’s pose was fantastic! Good job with the soong, too!
    Is ¡Milagro Tequila, Tim? Cheers.

  6. Cool song, Tim! I tried to rebel, I was in the principals office in elementary school most of the time. My elementary school principal was became my jr high and sr high school principal.
But I smarten up by high school 😉
Your cats are so cute! “Hey Tim got any cheese?” -Steve erkel

    • Thanks, Tiffany. Absolutely. After high school, I excelled at getting kicked out of Methodist churches.

  7. The principal almost started crying when I walked up on the stage to get my diploma from high school. He was so happy to see me go. He actually wiped at his eyes. LOL I do love the line of cats. You can kiss each one as you walk by.

  8. I still rebel against authority, from whatever source it comes, it’s the only way you can achieve authenticity ; I even rebel a little, as in ‘Mistook’ against the confines of grammar —

    • Absolutely. I have never stopped rebelling against authority, especially power-hungry authoritarians. I love your “mistook.” You have to play with language and stretch the boundaries of grammar. Grammar Nazis who want to follow strict, outdated rules can be so obnoxious.

  9. I never drank, smoked or did drugs either. I’m not a club goer either though I love concerts. Just like you, I hated authority and school – because of the authority. Glad to know there’s people like us in the world! 🙋🙂 also, great song!

    • You will remember great concerts forever. Good to hear you were also a rebel. There needs to be more people like us, but not so many to make us be considered “normal.” Thanks, IM.

    • Thanks, jYP. I don’t remember the actual name of the rose. The Rose was about the awareness of breast cancer.

  10. Been awhile since I’ve a reference to that song, even had to go back and listen to the original just to relive it again – think I was like 6 when it came out. Nice touch on your interpretation. I like kitties in a row, my poodles say organization is the hand of the devil.

    • I was 15 when GBYBR came out. I still love that album. I’m thinking about doing “All The Young Girls Love Alice.” The Devil made them do it. Thanks, Brian.
