Those are all beautiful images, Tim. I especially like the scene in the last photo. It was overcast up here last night, but the moon so bright, above the clouds that everything was dimly illuminated.
I love lichens! My favorite ones are in the genus Caldonia, especially the pixie cup lichens. Their green trumpets seem to blast good cheer.
There are three ancient volcanoes that made the lava flow the lichen is on. We have several ancient volcanoes in NM that left some of the largest calderas in the USA and the world. Most of them have lava domes and a lot of geothermal activity, but they are considered inactive volcanoes.
I use my iPhone as it’s handy. I wanted the camera for birds and insects where I need the bigger lens.we are planning a trip to Giants Castle in August to see the bearded vultures.
So beautiful! Thank you, Tim!
That lava rock was quite colorful! So pretty!
Thanks, Nancy.

You’re welcome, Tim.
The amazing lichen on a lava rock seems to embody parts from all today’s photos!
Lichen liking lava and everything else on Christmas day. Thanks, Marina.

Thanks, Shey. I would assume you get lots of lichen in you area.

That should read genus Cladonia
Thanks, Lavinia. Still clear and cold here.
The lichen on the lava rock is interesting. I am just finishing off a story about a volcanic eruption.

Fascinating, how nice that you can visit them
PS, I finally got a camera.
Cool! What did you get?
Cannon EOS R50. It comes with the 18 – 45 lens and I also got the 100 – 400 lens for birds. It is entry level but a nice upgrade from my iphone.
That will do you well. Funny how I hardly use my pro DSLR equipment these days, and use the iPhone instead.

You need a bigger lens and sensor for birds.
So beautiful ! Happy end of the year to you and your family !
