The smaller owl was out of the tree on the ditchbank when Jake and I went on our early morning walk. Three coyotes were eyeing the owlet. I chased off the coyotes, ran home with Jake, grabbed a box, ran back, put the owl in the box, took it home, put it in the library, covered it and shut the door so the cats wouldn’t bother it. Luckily, Daddy Owl did not attack me, and Mama Owl was nowhere to be seen. I took the owlet to Animal Rescue in Albuquerque.

Nice job. Nice.
Thanks, Bruce. I’m happy I got the owlet before the coyotes did.
Owl ended well in the end!
Yes. But it’s sad it had to be taken to the rescue. Thanks, Geoff.
That was a horribly close thing. Well done. Will the owlet be returned to your area when it can fly?
I don’t know. I gave them a map of where the nest is. Thanks, Couriers.
I’m glad you and Jake got there in time to rescue the little guy. I think everyone who reads here knows how much you know about all the creatures in the Bosque. I think the fact that he Daddy Owl saw you with the baby and didn’t attack says a lot about what the Bosque animals know about you.
Thanks for sharing.
Since there was no reason for the owlet to be on the ground, I believe the mama might have pushed it out of the tree because they might be having trouble feeding both of them, and that’s why Daddy Owl let me take it. It’s only conjecture. Thanks, Susan.
That makes sense but it also makes the story even sadder. I’m glad you were there. 🙁
So am I.
Timku to the rescue, TG… but now what? Will they bring him back? Gorgeous skies! 💕
It was Tim Dandee to the rescue. Thanks, Cindy.
❤️❤️
Awww poor thing.. Glad you found it.
I am too. Thanks, Shey.
It was karma.
Instant Karma’s going to get us!
Now that song will be in mah heid all day !! Lol
Sorry about that!
I’ll forgive you of course.
So glad you were able to save that little one…..
Pam
So am I. Thanks, Pam.
Great story of kindness Tim. I hope the owl thrives.
Thanks, Brad.
Great job saving the little owl, Tim!
Thanks, Herman.
Was the owlet injured?
No. It was in perfect owlet condition. Thanks, Liz.
I’m glad to hear that!
Very nice humanitarian, er, owl-itarian work Tim.
Hahaha! Thanks, Brad.
Great pictures Tim!
Thanks, Becky.
I am glad you took the little owl in to Animal Rescue. Will they give you updates on the owlet?
I asked for updates. The owlet is being cared for by the raptor team. If I get updates, I’ll post them. Thanks, Lavinia.
Thank you, Tim, you did the right thing, he/she will be fine now. I wonder if Daddy owl would have tried to protect him from the coyotes if they attacked, weird he didn’t bother you.
I’m sure Daddy Owl would have attacked a coyote, but three would be hard for him to handle, I would think. I think he knew I was helping. Thanks, Tiffany.
You are a hero. How lucky was the baby that you came along at the right moment. Please let us know how she’s doing. It’s so amazing that you can actually see the moon and planets. We can see things once in awhile but lots of polution, light and otherwise.
We have a lot of light pollution from Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, but we can still see the night sky pretty well. I just posted an update on the orphaned owlet. Thanks, Gigi.
I didn’t realize you had pollution. We also have constant cloud cover, it’s so horribly gray here all the time. And I’m happy things are going so well for the owlet. ❤️
We mostly have really clear skies, but the city lights pollute the rural areas that are close by.
Makes sense.
So, it just fell out of the nest?
I’m glad Daddy didn’t attack you. Maybe he knew you were rescuing?
It didn’t just fall out of the nest. GHOs have super strong grips. I believe that after the larger one moved out of the nest, Mama Owl quit feeding the smaller owl, so she either forced it out of the tree or it got down looking for food. It’s so dry here, she may have decided it’s too hard to feed both owlets. Only conjecture. Thanks, Resa.
Huh…interesting! Nature… a beauty and a beast all at once.
That’s amazing that you were able to rescue the owl from the coyotes! Bravo!
It was a weird day all around. Thanks, Dawn.
Super images Tim .. how good being able to help the owlet!
I’m happy Silver got me up earlier than I normally get up. Thanks, Julie.
