A wall of rain that never reached us

Lighting was getting close
Loki: “Impresive lightning, Paparazzo. Where’s the storm? Where’s the rain?”
Paparazzo: The storm and rain seems to have Petered out before it got to us.
Loki: “That Peter god, or whoever he is, needs to ‘Man Up’ and start peeing on us!”
Paparazzo: “I love your cat logic, Loki!’

i wanted it to rain for you
It finally started raining. The question is how much will we get? Thanks, KMS.
Disappointing but the electrical storm was impressive.
It just now started raining. We had to wait for the right Peter god to pee on us. Thanks, couriers.
Hahahha out of the mouths of cats. Darn rain would would be good. Not lightening! 🩷
It finally started raining. It will be interesting to see how much we get. Thanks, Cindy.
Oh yippee. I hope some for sure.. I’ll have to wait and see! You’re welcome! 😇
Hi, Tim. The shot of the virga is a great catch. The lightning series is just plain awe-inspiring. Not just because of the lightning, the colors are splendid too. Wow. Thanks so much for sharing those with us. Hugs.
You are welcome, Teagan. I’m happy you enjoyed the light show. We did finally get some rain.
Excellent. I’m sure the roses are grateful for the rain. The ants are loving the lack of it here. I think we had a 5 minute sprinkle several days ago.
Loki, you need to summon the right Peter!
Meantime, thunder and rain curtain (and Moon lamp) are fantastic!
Loki finally got the right god and he piddled on us a little. Thanks, Marina.
Those are some AWESOME lightning pics & gif!!
Thanks, Leenda.
These are fantastic. From the build up, the darkening yellow flowers to the final shots.
Thanks, Shey. I’m happy you liked the show. The lighting shouts “Die!” with a thunderous voice as the clouds roll in. You would find it quite inspiring for the rehearsals.
LOL!!! Love it. I did like the show. Every picture of it.
Like the picture of a lamp post and the moon behind it.
Thanks, YC.
Great lightning images and cat banter Tim.
Thanks, Brad.
Nice lightning. How long did it take before you could capture it? All I seem to get is blank frames, though admittedly I haven’t tried video, but I will now.
The lighting shots are from stills taken on my phone. Right when the lightning flashes, I hit the shutter button, and Live View gets the full flash. Then I pull the the best image of the full lightning flash out of the live view series. You could try doing the same with video.
What I used to do was set my DSLR on a tripod, set the aperture to f/11, and then set the exposure on Bulb and leave the shutter open until I got a flash or two, close the shutter, wait for it to write the file to the card, and then repeat.
Thanks Tim, I’ll give that a try. In other words, you have a finger activated lightning detector. Those lightning detector thingy’s seem like cheating otherwise. 🙂
I sure like the moon and the lightning photos. I also like when one of your cats have comments. They are so cute and witty. 🙂
Impressive photos, Tim, glad you finally got a little rain! We haven’t seen much at all this year.
Thanks, Tiffany.
Tim, your photos are extraordinary — the lightning feels alive, almost like a force reaching straight out of the sky. They immediately brought to mind Dougie MacLean’s rendition of Ready for the Storm, a song about meeting the winds and waves with both awe and courage. It captures that same mixture of fear and strength I see in your images. Nature always reminds us how small we are, and yet how resilient we can be.
Thanks, Rebecca. Good song. Storms leave me thinking about REO Speedwagon’s Riding The Storm Out.
What fabulous photos. Everyone was excellent and Loki is one smart kitty.
Thanks, Gigi. Loki is a wise kitty.
Interesting. We are being warned that heavy storms are coming and there’ll be flooding this summer 🤷♀️
We could use a lot more rain. Thanks, Robbie.
Gee, all that lightning and no rain. A beautiful rip-off.. so I take it you are back in drought conditions?
My wolf tree & Venus. Egads! The stuff myths are made of!
We’ve been getting piddling amounts a rain, but we appreciate every drop. We are still in extreme drought. Thanks, Resa.
Lamplight, moonlight !
Thanks, Geoff.
I was wondering if we would see more of your spectacular lightning photos, Tim! Thunderstorms rarely go overhead here, usually to the north or south of us. We can get some really strong wind gusts from storms though. Still in extreme drought up here.
We have received enough rain up north that the river is up a little, and we might get some irrigation water. Thanks, Lavinia.
