Another 24 hours, and there is still snow on the west face of the Sandias.

Sad news! The Tangle Heart Tree took a tumble.

Snow on the mountains, dry as a bone in the valley, the Tangle Heart Tree that succumbed to the drought in 2011, has fallen over.

Late afternoon

  1. Great collection of images Tim, especially the first and last ones. Sorry to hear about your tree and drought. We were having a drought until this last week, with 4 days constant rain and flooding.

  2. The Tangled Heart Tree 😢
Yikes the desert looks as dry as my skin in the winter!
    The Sandias looks beautiful!
    Super cute cats!

  3. We’ve had hardly any rain for at least a year, and if we don’t get the monsoons this summer, it’s going to be terrible. I spent a fortune on water last year, but I’m not doing it this year. I’m not going to plant anything new.

  4. I am saddened to read this. Perhaps something can be constructed with it, the world-renowned heart shape segments of it. Your cats’ eyes are so beautiful.

  5. Tim, I am so sorry to see that this beautiful tree fell over. I loved looking at her in the sunlight, moonlight and just alongside the other trees plus I am aware of the sentimental value as well.

We, too, lost trees. We lost at least four fifty-foot-plus trees on our land. We have additionally multiple trees just as big stuck on other trees like your beautiful tangled heart three. I am very sorry. I know how it feels. We have not been here long enough to have the kind of attachment that you have for your trees there. However, after we moved, the people who moved in cut down the seventeen-year-old crepe myrtles, some as tall as thirty feet, whose bark was magically gorgeous. These trees lined both sides of the driveway and were beautiful. I cried when I saw a photograph that a neighbor sent and my husband was depressed for days. They also destroyed the Monarch and bee garden. What is wrong with people?

I am truly sorry Tim. Nature is out of whack and it was water and ice that took our trees down.

  6. The wave of change moves forward, leaving many memories ~ and that is a beautiful thing we can treasure, along with your iconic and heart-filled photos of the magical “The Tangle Heart Tree.” This would make for one of those great, sad, but inspiring country-folk songs. All our hearts are tangled by this news.
