Got Comet?

Full Moon behind clouds and Resa’s Tree

I tried to get the Tsuchinshan-ATLAS comet the last few nights. It should have been in the top third, just right of center, but I could only see a few stars and wormy-looking clouds.

Letting sleeping cats lie

We’ve had a lot of wind the past few days—ripply water on the Rio Grande.

Sunset

Late breaking news. As Tristan was leaving tonight, she noticed “fireworks” to the north of us. The fireworks were the wind blowing the neighbor’s tree branches in the powerlines, causing them to arc. I called the fire department, and they sent three fire trucks to check it out. The wind died down by the time the fire department arrived, so they didn’t get to see the show, but they could see where the branches had been arcing on the powerlines. The power company is supposed to come out after they finish restoring a power outage and trim back the branches.

    • It got really windy, and the buzzing, popping, and light show from the power lines woke me up. The power went out. I called the power company to report the power outage at 1:30 am, and they came out at 7:30, trimmed the branches, and got our power back on. There were a lot of power outages around the city from the wind. It’s still winding this morning. The only good thing about this is we got a good rain. Thanks, Janet.

  1. During a bad ice storm, a falling branch brought down a power line and and sparked a fire that burned someone’s garage to the ground. The house was scorched, but the fire department saved it from further damage. Very scary stuff.

  2. Okay, I thought, I still got some Comet left, but it’s running out.

    Wrong!

I’ll just let the sleeping cats lie, and slip into your gorgeous sunset over my tree!

Arcing sounds really dangerous. I’ve never seen it.

Okay, I need to go do something mundane, like sewing! xx

    • I’m happy you thought of Comet. I was thinking about both. Thanks, Resa. Mundane is better than excitement from electrical hazards. Spunk had to hit the cheese this morning from the shock of it all.

  3. I’ve seen arcing here once in a tree across the street. It was some show and blew a transformer.

Which kitty is using Spunk’s behind as a pillow?

Skies, Sandias and river look as serene and beautiful as always.

  4. Dangerous stuff, those power arcs! Good thing Tristan noticed them and you called the authorities. Isn’t that always the way? The activity ceases when those who can fix arrive!

    Love the photos.

  5. We didn’t do that well on the northern lights earlier in the month, but we did manage to see and photograph the comet which was pretty cool – out here in the country we didn’t have a lot of lights interfering with the show. Trees and powerlines can be a scary combination. In our specific area we are a bit lucky as they buried all the lines.

    • I got the northern lights, but I never did see the comet. There are lots of old overhead powerlines around here that were installed under the rural electrification act. Thanks, Brian.

  6. oh those clouds behind Resa’s tree are amazing, Tim and the sleeping cats… while you worked to keep all of you safe. Hope they come back to fix it all❣️. Scary❣️❣️
