Longhaired Redneck

My first cover. Longhaired Redneck by David Allen Coe

People have asked me why I don’t do covers. My answer has been that I don’t see the point. I don’t play in a cover band, and it’s much more fun to write and record original songs. I started thinking about covers, and I decided it might be a good idea to learn songs I like as it might help to improve my vocals.

Now that I’m letting my hair grow, Longhaired Redneck by David Allen Coe seemed to be a good song for my first cover. Since I’ve been blue from all the pain, my hair is white, and I’m a redneck; I’ve been all-American Red, White, and Blue lately.

Dawn

This is my therapy bunny. I needed a pillow to rest my left arm on at night. But since I don’t have a small pillow that fits on the edge of the bed, I started using the bunny.

Spunk likes to paw the water while the other cats jug.

G&g in the back. Loki in the front.

  1. Perfect cover choice! I like the therapy bunny – I could have used that when I was trying to sleep with my elbow – ended up just hanging it off the side of the bed, but a bunny, now that would have helped. Ruger just looked at me with that “Don’t even think about touching my bunny” look.

    • Thanks, Brian. My bunny came wrapped around a cat magnet blanket. The cats love napping with the bunny. I was only able to steal it away because they also have a sheep and a “Zeeba” that also came with cat magnet blankets.

  2. Your new hairstyle looks really great, Tim. I wish I could do the same but I started losing my hair many years ago so I decided to shave it off completely.
I did some covers in the past (Iggy Pop, The Beatles, Queen…) but I was never satisfied with the result. I prefer writhing my own stuff…

    • I hear you on that. The originals are usually the best. But it’s good to learn other artists techniques. Thanks, Herman.

  3. Red, White, and Blue Tim sounds great and looks great too in white long hair [nice specs!].
Therapy bunny looks happy to serve.
Kitties and Timlandia make the perfect setting for a great day.

  4. The first image is like a painting…so beautiful- The Long haired redneck is fabulous…:). I love it. and the cats Devine….what a great way to start a very rainy Sunday.:)

    • It’s been raining hear to, believe or not! The photo I used for the cover of the cover, is a bleached effect. It makes great cover song cover art. Thanks, Janet.

  5. Great cover! I agree with your idea that creating your own music is more interesting and, I imagine, fulfilling. That said, when there is a song out there that fits the mood and vibe, it can be perfect, and you achieve it here. 🙂 Great photo and look. I like the style, and it fits you well. Cheers to future covers and new material and creativity!

  6. I’m red white and blue too… of course that has several definitions lately. Love the cover song , I had no idea you are a redneck. I though that was reserved for cotton growers. Live and learn.

    • I was a long-haired hippie type in my teens. I like having long hair when it’s manageable. Thanks, Tiffany.

  7. Great tune and pictures, Tim. Love that bunny, and it sounds like the cats do have other “friends” to hang out with when you request bunny-time.🐰

  8. David Allan Coe, an interesting choice. I hope it’s not because of the redneck thing. Now, if you covered Taylor Swift … Anti-Hero or Cruel Summer (including adjusted lyrics for her football bf), now that’s a fertile ground for writing, LOL. I teach voice at Cal Berkeley, in the music dept.

    • I’ve never heard those Taylor Swift songs. Interesting. There is no one named Caitlin in the Cal Berkley music department.

        • Given the five women who teach voice at Cal Berkeley are internationally acclaimed I don’t know why any of them would need a screen name. I would also be surprised if any of them would have time or the interest to find my blog and suggest I cover Taylor Swift.

          • I don’t pretend to know her situation. I do know she freelances work. Cait was interested if anybody does DIY parody, I said you’re the only one I know who does that. I think you might have freaked her out by looking her up. She was married to a not so nice guy who has a habit of still trailing her. I’ll leave it at this.

            • Assuming Caitlin exists outside your imagination, and that she was interested in “DYI parody”, why would she comment on a cover when I have lots of parodies on my blog she could review and comment on?Furthermore, it makes little sense that a voice teacher would be interested in DYI parody. That would be more the bailiwick of an ethnomusicologist.

  9. The long haircut looks good, and that is a great cover you did, Tim! Spunk’s paw seems to be keeping time with the song.

What happened to your left arm? Therapy bunny works as well as a pillow. Why not?

    • Thanks, Lavinia. I noticed Spunk’s paw was keeping time with the song. I almost made a video with it, but I didn’t have time. Both of my rotator cuffs are messed up, but my left shoulder is worse because I can’t get the kitties to purr on it like they do my left shoulder. I have had a lot of problems with my left elbow for years. Although, a lot of the night pain is probably related to ankylosing spondylitis.

  10. That was great!
    You sound fabulous.
I didn’t know the song, but do now.
Covers just might be the exercise (in a sense) you need.
    Well, I like it!
    Long haired red neck. Cool.
Beats a red haired long neck. xo
