Beauty & Woe

The Rio Grande is running lower and lower every day.

A cloudburst where rain never reaches the ground.

The corn should be tall and full of ears of corn by now. Wagner’s Farm usually has a bustling farm store this time of year. There is no sign of activity, no signs advertising available produce.

Hot As Hell

Hot as hell today
One-seventeen in the sun
Sweated like a pig

Half The Dog He Used To Be

Sunset

He thought he was off to school to be tutored
But off to the vet, he went, to get neutered
Now he’s sad, half the dog he used to be
They put on a cone, adding insult to injury
When Buddy recovers from this trauma
They will fix his third eyelid and end that drama
He will be a new dog, like a new day
Oh Buddy you have come a long way

Morning moons

Surprise! Daddy Owl dropped in for a visit.

Daddy Owl eyeing the hummer perched on the branch below him.

No Wet Kisses

Orange clouds rolled overhead
Dragging sheets of fickle rain
Never touched the ground

Parched earth’s cracked and broken clay
Yearned to be covered with rain’s wet kisses
Left dried, curled, flayed

Dry & Night

Plowed earth lies barren
Fertile ground parched and thirsty
Spilled seeds will not grow

Moon tunnel lights night sky
Portal to the other side
Hallucinations sleeping souls
Keeper of our dreams

Jupiter sits on Sandia Crest
Saturn basks in a golden glow
Stars still hang in space

Midnight rainbow hangs at two
Stars peek through smokey hues
Brushstrokes blotches arcs
Orange, greens, magenta, blues

Jupiter rising into blue
Saturn sees the moon at two

Snowbound

Blown by icy winds
Tumbled to the ground
On edge stuck like a knife
Snow rough, trodden
Out of reach
Sun’s warming grip
Snowbound waits its fate…
Snow melts sets it free
Or…
Stepped on, crushed underfoot

White Spider

White spider in asphalt space
Forever longing for the tree
Shelter from unforgiving sun
Escape from infinite tires
There is consolation
From the screeches
When unobservant souls discover
They stepped on a spider

Yin-Yang Kitties

Sasha & Gwendolyn

Yin-yang Kitties
Curled up in a ball
Cold winter morning
Hoarfrost at the door

Purring in harmony
Dreams of catching birds
Lizards chased around the house
Leaping on a big fat mouse

Unlucky in the hunt
Wake to get a bite
Same old kitty food
Mouse Mousse would be alright
