Another Snake, Linda! Proceed With Caution

Dawn

WARNING! Snake Photos at the end of this post!

Hey! Paparazzo! Looki. See? We need more juggin’ water! ¿Sí?

Silver: “You’re fast, Loki! I’m outta here!”

Our guard Hummingbird. He sits at the top of the Chitalpa, and if any suspicious-looking characters come around, he attacks them.

Owl Newz

Nora on the left. Hungry Willa and Walter in the middle. Osric on the right

Nora was on her branch giving sweet, higher pitched hoots to Osric, who was about 100 feet from her at the top of a tree. We figured she was giving him a grocery list.

Osric gave Nora a gopher. Hmmm! Could be a song!

When Osric brought Nora the critters, it was after dusk, so I only got a few halfway clear shots that I lightened up in post processing so we can see what the owls were up to.

Osric flew off and came back with a packrat.

My what big claws you have, Nora!

After Nora flew over to the nest, Osric flew in, dropped off the packrat in the nest and flew off. Apparently, Nora’s grocery list was for gopher and packrat.

Progression of the sunset tonight.

WARNING! WARNING! Snake photos below!

Me with Blue Boa

Many of you thought that bullsnake was huge. Now Blue is what I would call a huge snake.

I don’t believe I have ever posted a photo of myself with Blue Boa. I don’t handle her much because of my compromised immune system. The results of a recent blood test showed my white counts and absolute nuetrofils are low again. Reptiles carry salmonella, so people with compromised immune systems s should not handle them much.

Laurie took the photos. Blue Boa was squirming around a lot.

Spunk thinks he much better looking than that stinking snake.

  1. I have to admit that the photograph with Blue Boa and you is very beautiful! I was surprised to see how big Blue Boa is… But if you start the post with cat photographs, I can handle the snakes… 😉

    • I figure if the snakes are last and people know, it’s easier to deal with them. Thanks, Herman.

  2. Very “brave” Tim with Blue Boa. Nice kitty and owl photos. Always nice to share a gopher dinner.

  3. After today’s owl series, I’m thinking it would make a good illustrated children’s book to teach them about owl behavior, with a bit a humor to boot.

  4. Spunk is right. He is way better looking. Blue Boa is rather striking, however 😉

Love the exchanges with the owl family. Definitely hooted her grocery list, I say!

    • Thanks, Dale. Spunk thanks you for agreeing with him. Blue thinks she has much prettier patterns that old two-tone Spunk. The communication between Nora and Osric is fascinating. They have a lot of different hoots. When Osric flew over with the gopher, he hooted a quick successions of hoots to let Nora know he had prey, and she flew over for the exchange. I had heard Daddy Owl make those same quick hoots a couple of years ago to alert Mama Owl he had prey, and she flew out of the nest and got it from him.

  5. it looks like they might be settle up for a bit on the food department.
WOW, Blue is huge. Look at you so happy holding him. I didn’t know that about snakes and the immune system.. Sorry your count is low. Hope things get stabilized!
    💓

    • My immune system has been that way for years. However, I never get sick, so it works as it is. Last year in got into the normal range, but fell off again this year. C’est la vie! Thanks, Cindy.

  6. Those are greats photos of you and Blue, Tim! No, I don’t ever recall seeing you and Blue together before. Many thanks to Laurie for taking those.

Always good to see the Howlin’ Thiggun’ Jugger Band and good old Spunk. Osric seems like a good provider, and those are some spectacular shots of the Owlams Family.

Beautiful sunset progression. I see you got some good cloud cover, too. We have a little rain going on up here today.

    • Thanks, Lavinia. Blue was not very comfortable going outside. She was being a big wiggle worm. Clear today. It’s supposed to be stormy on Saturday.

  7. You two look so good together! She’s a big girl! I bet Laurie had a lot of fun taking these shots.
Dawn, Kities, Owls, Sunset newsletter always contribute to a great day!

  8. Umm… Spunkie-Poo 💋 is much cuter than Blue.

However, Blue is beautiful and elegant. You’re looking pretty good yourself. I’m so loving your silver hair.

I hope Silver is not jealous.

The cats are juggin’. The owls are munchin’.

    Life is happenin’! xx

  9. What a great selection on offer this time, Tim! Loved the owls shots. well, everything really. The Tate should be interested in the first shots. Cheers.

        • Ok. That is a beautiful boa. What a glorious color design. I wouldn’t mind holding it, but I probably would not wear it over my shoulders. I would be afraid that somehow it might wind around my neck. Probably not….but. The other problem is I can’t lift more than about 20 pounds. Blue looks heavier than that?

          • Hello, thanks. The colour I should think would be a perfect camouflage for the boa. They’ll not need camouflage to hide from anything, that’ll be so they can creep up on their victims. Hehe!
            Hehe! Keep safe.

          • Thanks, Mary. Blue weighs more that 20 pounds. Years ago when I had a 15 foot long, 125 pound, Burmese python, we had a stewardess friend who came to visit when she was laid over for a day. She was terrified of snakes, but became interested in our python. Within a couple of hours, she overcame her fear of snakes and had the python over her shoulders, and had me taking photos of her with her point and shoot to prove she held a giant snake. Boas and pythons are great snake ambassadors because they are often very chill.

  10. Linda says THANK YOU for the heads up! Those shots would have definitely spiked her pacemaker. Nora has definitely selected a good hunter for her partner. Like I had mentioned before, the other critters in your area do not have chance!

    • No chance at all. Osric seems very capable of completing a grocery list. Thanks, Brian.
