Years ago when we had a plague of roadrunners on our property, a dozen of them would perch on the roof of our house, warming themselves in the morning sun, while making their crazy sounding roadrunner noises. Then they would walk circles around us while we worked in the garden hoping for for any delicacies we might dig up; the whole time they were sizing us up like trying to decided if they could take us down and make a meal of us, also. They are bold birds. Thanks, Leenda.
They are small compared to the Looney Tunes RR. But don’t let their small size fool you, they’ll still take you down and whack you on the ground a few times. Thanks, Dale.
The Deinonychus skeletons they found in Wyoming and Montana are big like the “velociraptors” in Jurassic Park. Skeletons of velociraptors that are not much bigger than roadrunners were found in Mongolia. Back in the dino days, Mongolia and North America were probably one, so roadrunners could be contemporary veleciraptors.
So cool. And yes, I do believe that is true – that the two parts of the world were once connected. Plus, I would not be surprised at all at various sizes of these beasties.
What a great shot of the roadrunner, Tim! I hear one somewhere around here, but have never seen one. Way back in Rio Rancho, one used to run across my courtyard wall.
Happy New Year — and hugs.
A lovely dawn, Tim. Yesterday, I woke up early and went for a walk. As I strolled along, I witnessed the breathtaking beauty of the sunrise. It was a perfect Zen moment, where I felt a deep sense of tranquility and peace.
My totem creature! For obvious reasons the Roadrunner has always held special meaning for me (and inked on me). I wish there was a Greater Trailrunner bird to represent my new running preference ha.
Beep beep!
I second that… “Beep Beep!”
Thanks, Bruce.
😀
Sans Wile E Coyote. Thanks, Liz.
That was a beautiful dawn, Tim.
The road runner looks like he is waiting for the business to open.
He had just snatched and eaten something. Thanks, Lavinia.
Don’t see them by buildings too often!

I’ve never heard their noise!
I think they were trying to see if you were digging up Acme dynamite or anvils that they’d have to use against you.
You can listen to their various sounds at https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Greater_Roadrunner/sounds#
Great link, thx!!! I definitely had not heard any of those songs/calls before.
Each one sound so different!
They are interesting. Thanks, Geoff.
Good thing Mr. Coyote wasn’t around!
Oh Wile E was nowhere to be seen until I went on my ride after I got home. Thanks, Marina.
I’m sure you didn’t mention the Beep to him, did you?!
No! Not at all.
Awww….. Sweet.
Thanks, Shey.
Hope he recovered from that wrong turning!
Seems to be a problem with Albuquerque as Bugs Bunny pointed out. Thanks, Couriers.
Great capture x
Thanks, Sue.
Beautiful dawn. Roadrunner is a small little fella, isn’t he? Looney Tunes led us to believe they were much taller 😉

They would, eh? Duly noted!! 😉
I think they evolved from velociraptors.
That is not impossible!

Dawn and sunrise are magic. Thanks, Rebecca.
I love that color for sunset! And that Bird looks cute
Thanks, Becky.
That’s one cute bird.
Have you ever seen a coyote chase one?
Thanks Tim! xx
I have not seen a coyote chase a roadrunner. Thanks, Resa.
Ah.. interesing!

If you go running in AZ, you might get a coyote trailing you. Look out for Acme packages with you name on them. Thanks, Brian.
