A Frayed Knot

The state of the cats’ scratching post reminded me of a very old joke I heard last century:

A string went into a bar and ordered a beer. The bartender told the string that he didn’t serve strings. The string left the bar, tied itself in a knot, fluffed up its top, went back in the bar, and ordered a beer. The bartender looked sideways at the string and asked: “Aren’t you that string that was in here a few minutes ago?” The string answered: “No sir! I’m a frayed knot!”

The cats have enjoyed their scratching post so much they have frayed the knots.

  1. You should see the state of my son’s cat’s scratching post… there’s nothing left! She’s taken to attacking the winter carpet in front of the door. Of course, my son is not in any rush to replace the damn thing…

  2. The cats look like a happy bunch of knot frayers. 🙂

Thanks for the moon view, Tim, it’s a beautiful photo. It’s a bit overcast up here tonight for me to see it..

    • This is the first night I’ve paid attention to the moon in it’s new phase. We had clouds most nights last week. The kitties are happy and ornery. Thanks, Lavinia.

  3. Lol! I haven’t heard that one in a while, but it was one of my ex-boyfriends’ favorite jokes, so, yeah, just thought of him again. 🙄 Thanks for all the cute kitty distractions! 🤣😻

  4. I enjoy centuries old jokes LOL Winter is beginning to fray hereabouts, meaning we’re beginning to fray. It’s fun seeing your indoor critters; some of us aren’t so blessed. I really love the moon photos!

    • You are going to have to think about springing forward with Haikus about spring pretty soon. Thanks, Mary Jo.

      • Oh trust me, I am! Spring is a very slow process here along the shores of Lake Michigan; I’ll try to keep it real in keeping with that crawl. Patience. 🙂

    • Thanks, picpholio. I’m happy you liked the joke. It’s a nice play on words. As Loki noted earlier, he is not into gender fluidity. Gwendolyn thanks you for noticing her beauty.

    • The need to replace scratching posts seems to be common. I never see wire hangers in the local stores. We haven’t had wire hangers in years. Thanks, David

    • Hi Resa. Uncle Loki and both kittens have things going on. He’s been teaching the all his tricks. Spunk has been getting them to play games with him. It’s really cute. Glenda and Gwendolyn are very bright and good students of Loki and Spunk.
