Outside The House In The Rising Sun

Silver is catching a sunbeam as it spills over the irrigation border.

I opened the kitty door a little before sunrise. I tied up the trash and walked outside to find the sun peeking over the Sandias. All the kitties, except for Lola†, were lounging outside the house in the rising sun.

Spunk out of the sunbeams that were blocked by Resa’s Tree watching the other kitties catching the early morning rays.

†Lola was still in bed. She sleeps late and catches sunbeams streaming through the bedroom window in the mornings.

Lola Update

IMG_6236

As I reported on March 22, 2020, Lola has degenerative arthritis in her paws, and it’s especially bad in her right paw where the bones have separated. She has been in three different splints over the past six weeks (we changed her splint every two weeks), with  the hopes that the bones would fuse back together once her paw was stabilized by the splints. Today ended the 6th week. The vet took off Lola’s splint and x-rayed her paw. Unfortunately, Lola’s bones do not show any signs of fusing back together. Therefore, we decided to put another splint on her since she seems quite comfortable with her splints, and gets around very well with her leg splinted. Without the splint, she can hardly walk and she gets a lot of pain trying to walk on what amounts to a broken paw. Our vet is looking into other long term solutions for stabilizing Lola’s paw. Lola might end up being a bionic cat.

In case you missed the music video, Lola Limp, that I posted on March 22nd, I added it to the bottom of this post.

Lola Limp

Lola has degenerative arthritis in her right paw. The bones got separated so the Vet splined Lola’s leg. We hope her bones will fuse back together with her paw stabilized by the splint. Lola feels so much better with the splint and she gets around really well it. I couldn’t resent writing a song for her.

Lola has a nasty limp
The doctor put her in a splint
It’s enough to make you shiver
Now she looks like she’s Long John Silver

Come on Come on
Do the Lola limp with me
Stiffen up one leg
Like a limb on a tree
Limp once forward
Un pasito adelante
Limp side right
Shake it make it kinda funky
Limp once backward
un pasito a la trás
Limp side left
Lola limp is like a box

Flying Felines

While people are wringing their hands, gnashing their teeth, and hoarding toilet paper over all the happenings in the world right now, our kitties headed for the sky and did some feline flying to stay above it all. Kitties know how to have fun in times of trouble.

Felines flying one by one
Felines in the sky today
Here they come having fun

Felines flying

Felines walking on the air
Flying up, down and all around
They found a way to fly away

Felines flying in the air
Going high in the sky
Going nowhere

They’re going nowhere fast

Felines flying in the air
Through the sky they walk on air

Felines flying in the sky
Felines in the air so fine
They know where they are going
Up with the birds in the air

Felines flying in the sky walking on air
In the air they are so fine walking on the line

Badger Baskets

Spunk

Badgers are dangerous, and so is Badger Basket furniture. As you can see from the warning label below, failing to follow the badger warnings can result in serious injury or death. Just like with warnings from live badgers. Fortunately, Spunk, Sasha, Lola and I survived assembling the Badger Baskets.

Lola’s Nick

IMG_5179
Lola with the nick in her left ear barely showing.

In an exchange of comments about Silver and Sasha, I told Resa that Silver is a bully. She asked if he bullied Spunk. The boy kitties bully each other but it’s all play, sparing and wrestling, nothing serious. However, when it comes to the girl kitties, Silver, Spunk and Loki bully and beat up on the girls. I mentioned that Lola got a nick in her ear recently, which I assume was Silver or Spunk bullying her, but I really don’t know who nicked her ear. Resa asked to see Lola’s nicked ear.

Lola’s nicked ear made me think of our old Tom cat Nick, who came to us around 2001. He tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), but he was such a sweet kitty, and had such an interesting personality, we had to keep him. He was a wonderful addition to our family, and showed no signs of illness until fall of 2007. He went down hill quickly and died around the beginning of November 2007.
