  1. In a river like the Rio Grande, shallow and too big to put in a dike and a lodge, do beavers live in mud burrows on the riverbanks?

    • Yes, they do. They build dams in the Clearwater Ditch when it has water, but the river is running so low that the Clearwater Ditch is almost dry. The green mud puddle I call “Notre Pond” with the snapping turtles is behind a beaver dam in the Clearwater Ditch. Thanks, Joe.

  2. Your photos are a wonderful start to the day, Tim. I think I see the beaver on the bank.

    We have killdeer up here too. Some years they have attempted to nest in the gravel driveway, but have usually abandoned the eggs.
