The Sacrificial Roll

Spunk view.

A few hours after the current very restrictive lockdown was announced that put a capacity of 25% or 75 people, whichever is smaller, in any store that was allowed to be open, people went nuts, rushed out, and bought out all the toilet paper. I ordered a box of 80 rolls of super-soft, 2-Ply, 100% Recycled Fiber Bulk Toilet Paper on-line at a reasonable price, less than Costco’s Kirkland brand. The cats, especially Spunk, Silver, and Marble, worked and worked on getting the box of toilet paper opened. When I walked into the dance room on Saturday morning November 21st, I discovered the kitties had managed to get into the box and pull out a roll of toilet paper and had started shredding it. Fortunately, one roll was enough for them — the sacrificial roll. We hadn’t realized a roll of toilet paper could be so much fun. Since then they have been slowly shredding it. Spunk, Silver, and Marble have been taking turns beating up and chewing on the roll.

Video of Spunk, Silver, and Marble playing with the roll of toilet paper. All three really go at it, but Silver and Marble were reluctant to really beat up the roll when the camera was rolling.

The freshly frayed roll.

The kitties really like beating up on the roll on top of the card table.

Marble admiring her work.

Silver looked crazed.

Spunk’s tail by his tiger tail he uses to protect us that he placed by the toilet paper.

  1. Why the eff do people feel the need to stock up just because less can be in the store at the same time? It is insane to me.
As for the kitties and the roll… boy oh boy! Glad mine never got into that!

    • There seems to be some evolutionary toilet paper hording genes passed on from the Great Depression generation. I remember mom telling me about having to use Sears catalogs for toilet paper during the depression. Now that most catalogs and reading materal are on-line, people must be freaking out of the thought of using their mobile devices. Thanks, Dale.

  2. HaHa! Funny, my cats never got a whole roll to play with. But Alex and Paco would unroll it in the bathroom, as would my dog Zaire. Love seeing the Price kitties having a different way to play. 😻

    • Thanks, Susan. They don’t pull it off the roll in the bathroom. Although Spunk shredded rolls of paper towels in his youth.

  3. Have at it yourself, Tim. It looks like fun. Where did you find Spunk’s tiger tail? I think you told us a quite a while ago, bit I forget.

    • Hi Susan. The tiger tail is his third tail. He totally wore out his leopard tail he played with for years. We got him another leopard tail, but it’s small, so I got him the tiger take. He places all three of them in different places around the house every night. The original tail is a rag now, but he still makes good use of it.

  4. That first shot is fabulous!
And why in the world are people so nuts over toilet paper! I understand the need… but really now!!
So glad to see Spunk having fun at home.

  5. ah ah !! your cats had a blast shredding the toilet paper 😅. Like us in France, when the confinement was announced, people rushed for toilet paper and robbed everything in supermarkets.😮

      • Thank you Timothy, I’m fine despite the Covid 19. We are still confined and tomorrow is Black Friday in France. Hope you are doing well too. Kisses Timothy from Paris.

      • Our Black Friday was last week. I didn’t go out at all. All the kitties send you hugs and kitty kisses.

    • I’m waiting until they have the roll down to the tube to clean up the shreds. They still play in the shredded paper. Thanks, Sue.

      • Unless Biscuit discovers it. That’s how our cats did. They are always determined to get into a box and in this one they found treasure.

  6. The sacrificial roll here is the last cinnamon roll. 🙂

Cats love toilet paper. One of our early cat blog friends loved toilet paper. His mom had to buy a child-proof lock to secure the TP. He knew how to open cupboards.

  7. So funny. My cat has appointed himself sheriff of Christmas town as you can see on Instagram.

He says the towns not big enough for the two of us. 😊

  8. OMG!!! This is too, funny! Spunkie-Poo 💋 really knows how to beat the ship out of roll of TP!
Silver and Marble do a pretty good job, too.
I haven’t been able to put TP on the roller thing in the bathroom, since Johnny discovered it 12 years ago. He stands on hind legs, and unrolls the whole roll of TP with his front paws, then mutilates it quite nicely.
