Doubled

Rio Grande at 5:30 a.m. this morning running about 4 feet higher than the night before.

We got a major thunderstorm at midnight last night that dumped almost 3/4 of an inch of rain. When I got up, the rain gauge showed double the amount of rain from when I went to bed. We now have 1.43 inches of rain for the month. I did another five-mile walk in the rain again this morning.

The Rio Grande at 7:00 a.m. this morning up another 2 or more feet from 5:30 a.m.

The place where I stepped down to take the 5:30 a.m. photo was under water at 7:00 a.m.

Jake met me at the gate and got a short ride to my parking spot when I got home this afternoon.

The river had gone down about 4 feet by dusk. The place I step down to take photos was no longer underwater, but too muddy to step on, unless you’re a dog.

Water was still flow the full width of the river at dusk.

  1. A great post to see this morning–the opening shot of the Rio Grande is surreal… We could use the rain here in Czechia as well as back in my hometown (and the Pacific Northwest in general). Nature is not to be messed with… and with your second photo, also the beauty of nature is unmatched 😊! Cheers to a good weekend, Timothy.

    • It’s nice to get rain after our hot, dry summer. I saw photos of some of the rivers in eastern Europe running very low, like the Rio Grande was all summer. Thanks, Randall.

    • It’s great to see water in the river. If the monsoon season continues, the river will stay up. Thanks, Gigi.

    • It was so nice to get some rain. You’re right. Jake loves riding in my sports car, short or long. He knows he looks cool in it. Thanks, Donna.
