Looking east at Susan’s and Teagan’s Trees behind the snow-covered black bamboo.
We got four inches of wet, heavy snow last night that broke a lot of trees, causing power outages. We were without electricity for over 15 hours, and we still don’t have internet service. I’m using my phone as a hotspot for this post.
The snow laid Rebecca’s Black Bamboo down so we could see the trees behind the bamboo. I was out early, cutting up trees that had fallen across the road so people could get out and in.

Pretty but seems early for snow or are you higher up in elevation than Albuquerque?
We are lower than most of Albuquerque at 5000 feet. We have had snow in the first week of October in years past.
Yes, I guess it’s like Boulder CO.
In altitude. Climate is different,
I didn’t know Alber-que-que even got snow. Good info… it’s one of the cities I’ve considered for “I gotta move from these neighbors”
We don’t get a lot of snow, but we do get cold in the winter.
Did you get more? I just saw a headline about NM getting loads of snow but imagine that depends on location.
We didn’t get any more snow. One of out staff members who lives 100 miles north of us got three feet of snow.
Eeegads!!!
I dread early wet heavy snows. The power company has been proactively tree trimming around the area up here, but I still see plenty of places where a heavy wet snow on branches overhanging lines is going to cause a problem later. We’re in the mid 50s to 60 degrees for a couple of days and then the rain comes back again, with temperatures dropping over the next couple of weeks. I see some possibilities for snow higher up.
Spunk is one artistic cool cat.
I don’t see much proactive tree trimming around here. It’s supposed to snow again. We’ll see. Thanks, Lavinia.
stunning pics, Tim; I’ve never seen snow like this: only ‘puppy’ snow at ski resorts —
I’ve never heard of “puppy” snow. Is that beginners’ snow? Here, the beginner runs are called “Bunny” slopes. Thanks, John.
just made it up ; it sounded right —
Jake was frolicking in what he thinks is puppy snow.
lol
Wow, that must have been a sad surprise. Hopefully my tree is well. Resa’s tree is so beautiful. Spupnk is a true artist. Hope all is well and things get back to non-snow normal soon.
Your tree is in great shape. No broken branches. I think we are headed back to non-snow normal already. Thanks, Gigi.
I’m so happy to hear that she’s okay. Thank you. ❤️
I posted a photo of her standing up to the snow.
I just came back from looking at that wonderful photograph. Can’t thank you enough. She looks gorgeous and she has the most beautiful shape/branches. She’s tough and she can shake off the snow. ❤️ Thank you so much.
Your tree has a classic cottonwood shape.
Ah, I didn’t know that. She’s beautiful. ❤️
Wow, that’s incredible! Beautiful photos. Hope you’re all staying warm. Take care.
Thanks, Michele.
Welcome! ❄️
Snow looks beautiful in Albuquerque. I will send you more. 🤣
Make it light and fluffy snow. Thanks, Becky.
It really looks nicer at your place, I think, than in actuall would here, so if you don’t mind, I would do like Becky. 😀
As I told Becky, send light and fluffy snow. Thanks, Heidi.
🙂
It must be very beautiful. My friend in Santa fe has sent pictures as well. Enjoy 🙂
Thanks, Janet.
It has been so long since I have seen snow, I remember snow days like this. 🙂
Wow… already so much snow…?? It makes me long for spring and summer. Where’s that time machine when you need one…??
I would like the snow to stay in the mountains. Thanks, Herman.
That’s crazy to me.. so far out of my experience that it doesn’t even look real!!
It doesn’t seem real in some ways. Thanks, Leenda.
We’ve had snow like that. It can do some real damage. I hope your power is restored soon.
It is amazing how heavy wet snow is. Thanks, Liz.
You’re welcome, Tim. You should see my husband trying to use the snowblower on snow that heavy. (There’s cursing involved.)
Sounds like one can’t get enough cursing blowing wet snow.
Exactly.
Your pics are gorgeous despite the powerlines being down and all that hassle.
Thanks, Shey.
Amazing how the soft and light fluffy snow can do such damage.
Painter and Spunk are very inspired.
I hope all is back to normal!
It’s deceiving on the light and fluffy. It’s wet, heavy, and dense. Wet snow is heavy-duty snow. Thanks, Marina,.
Heavy-duty indeed!
Wow!
Thanks, Dawn.
Wow! That is a lot of heavy snow, glad you have power again, I suppose you are prepared for that.
Less than more prepared. I keep threatening to put in a back up generator, but I can’t justify the cost. Thanks, Tiffaany.
I’m sorry for what happened in your surrounding, Timothy. I think, however, we have to get used to ths kind of surprise!
Snow happens. Thanks, Martina.
What a nuisance! I’m sorry for the troubles you got.
We don’t get snow often, but we do have power outages a few times a year. Mostly from wind. Thanks, Flo.
Wow, the white stuff is starting to show up – blogger friend from Colorado posted she woke up to snow as well (looked like more that 4 there). A good reminder that I need to get the RV ready to head south although we are looking at 2 or so more weeks of nice temps according to the forecast. Careful with that chainsaw, we don’t want you getting hurt out there.
Our staff member 100 miles north of us got three feet of snow. I did a Corrales Chainsaw Massacre on those fallen trees. Thanks, Brian.
I had goosebumps looking at my black bamboo tree, covered with a lovely, pristine cover of snow. Brrr….. I feel Resa’s tree is protecting my resilient black bamboo, which I know will rise yet again. I hope that electricity will come back soon. Keep safe. LOVE the Spunk Art!!
Your bamboo has amazing flexibility and tolerance for temperature extremes. Thanks, Rebecca.
Thank you, Tim!!! I love having my own tree at your place!!
Check out your bamboo draped around Marinas Tree that I posted tonight.
I didn’t know it got like that where you live. Hope everyone has what they need
Things and better. Thanks, Dawn.
All that snow reminds me of DC. LOL, recently I’ve been wishing I could live in Santa Fe. Now that work is not part of the picture, snow is not such an issue. But lack of power sure is…
I’m glad ya’ll are safe. Hugs.
I’m not too hot on snow, if you get my drift? Santa Fe would be nice if it weren’t so expensive. Thanks, Teagan.
Haha. And yes… it’s prohibitively expensive. HBO would have to make one of my books into a series. Maybe two. LOL.
YIKES! Still, my tree looks marvellous.
You gonna sell that Spunkie-Poo 💋 art? It’s all the rage…..maybe.
Spunk Art is the opposite of sandpainting. Instead of disappearing at sundown, Spunk Art disappears at sunup. Thanks, Resa.
Lol!!!
Snow covered Sandias is wonderful! Eek, no electricity .. Hope you all stayed warm! Will the bamboo survive the flattening?
It got pretty darn cold before the power was restored. Thanks, Julie.
