    • We got spat on The wind broke a couple of large limbs off the neighbor’s cottonwood and they were blocking the road. So I spent the afternoon/early evening cutting up the tree limbs and clearing them off the road. I got an email from the conservancy that they are releasing the last stored water allotment, and then we are at the mercy of the natural flow in the Rio Grande. if we don’t get rain up north, the river might dry up. Thanks, Lavinia.

      • Counting on rain in Colorado … whether it’s raining in the RG headwaters, that’s another story. Amanda has told us it’s been a wet summer along the Front Range and most of the mountains

        • I heard the rain was mor normal in CO this summer. Hopefully, it will catch up down here or there will be enough rain in Southern CO to keep the Rio running. Thanks, Deborah.

          • According to the latest drought monitor map, drought conditions continue to persist in SW Colorado where the RG originates. The rains, while welcomed, it is the snow that builds the watershed for the RG and the Colorado. March and April are the snowiest months in a normal winter season. We just haven’t seen the heavy snows for the past 5-7 years, including this year. Whether the rain was more normal, this summer has been more cool though we had a heat spell for 7-10 days according to Amanda. She said this has been the year for more flies. The bug zappers and flypapers have been working overtime. Horses have been wearing their fly masks more.

            • As dry as it has been here, we have had a lot more mosquitoes this year. Flies seem about the same as any other year. Our northern mountains got a lot more snow this year, which really helped with water stores for irrigation, but not enough without getting a significant amount of rain from the monsoons. We just had a couple of downpours move through. I’ll see if there was enough to register on the weather station when I get home.

  1. The moon peeking out of the clouds is stunning.
On the news, I saw the horrible fire at a recycling plant in Albuquerque. I hope the awful smoke dissipated quickly.

    • I couldn’t see the smoke from where we are in the valley.. It was quite a fire. Thanks, Nancy.

  2. Your pictures and Moonku are wonderful. I just read your response to Lavinia. Sending rain your way (we’ve had more than enough and I am more than willing to share so that you don’t go without!)

  3. You get some great cloud formations. The top one looks like a Seurat. The last two look like watercolors, almost Monet-ish.

  4. Either you are uber-prolific or I am uber-behind…me thinks a little of both, but doing my best to finally get caught up now that I can type efficiently. That first shot looks like the end of Ghotsbusters when they blew up the Staa-Puft Marshmallow man (note, I always though it was Stay-Puff until I just looked it up who knew ha.)
