Carolingian Minuscule Anyone?

I don’t suppose these young Renaissance enthusiasts changed the fonts in their instant messengers to Carolingian minuscule for texting while in character. Carolingian minuscule was developed in the middle ages (the “Dark Ages” to the Renaissance humanists) during the reign of Charlemagne, but those very humanists thought that the Carolingian minuscule script was so beautiful that it had come from their beloved Roman Empire. So much so, that the humanists mistook old Carolingian manuscripts from the 8th and 9th centuries as original ancient Roman manuscripts. Since the humanists failed in their backward quest to restore the glory of the Roman Empire, the Renaissance didn’t happen as it was supposed to. Scientific inquiry, experimentation, and observation, theology, economics, education, etc. of the time proved that so many things from the Roman Empire were wrong, “the Renaissance” is the high middle ages and the early modern period. However, it seems to me young people in costume, on their phones texting at a Renaissance Faire is true to the Renaissance.

Green Eggs No Ham

Dawn

What looked like moss in the shallow water running at the bottom of the irrigation ditch turned out to look like tiny eggs, but I have no idea what laid them if they are eggs. It looks like thousands upon thousands of eggs and it’s hard to imagine what could lay so many eggs.

A closer view of what looks like eggs on the bottom of the ditch.

Sliver moon through the slats in the miniblinds

The clouds cleared after sunset and we were able to see the sliver moon through the window in Beaker’s and Søren’s room.

The moon through the window.

The Rio Grande was still running higher this afternoon from the rains up north.

Bird Jokes

Between rains

“Did you hear about the Cormorant who was picking at beak boogers with a claw on his foot? He ‘clawboogered’ himself!”

“Bahahahahaha!”

“Wait a minute. That’s not funny!”

“Okay already! Quit looking at me like that. It was just a stupid joke!”

See no fishies. Hear no fishies. Eat no fishies.

Spunk being a book prop.

I presented my paper at a conference, so now I have started on Christine Robertson’s new book “Three Years OF her Life”.

I broke in the book and got through a few pages by torchlight last night.

Happy Halloween

My birthday cake. Costco didn’t have any cakes with Happy Birthday!

This is a display along Corrales Road. I’m happy I got it early. The skeleton disappeared after the high winds last week.

All the cats got to try on the bat wings. Loki in photos 12 and 13 was the best batwing model. Glenda (3rd photo) and Gwendolyn (last photo) were pretty good, also. Black cats know they look good in bat wings. Spunk, on the other hand, told me exactly what he thought about wearing bat wings after I took them off him (7th photo).
