Bufo Bluegrass in the Bosque

Everybody wants to get in on the Off Center & Not Even music scene these days. We came across a group of toads (Bufo woodhousii) in the bosque last night that call themselves The Kaleidoscopic Croakers, which is rather obvious from the photo I took of them under the light of our phones. They croaked out a bluegrass-like tune for us that they call A Chorus of Crazy Croaking.

  1. Very cool, Tim! Frogs are some of my favorite animals. It reminds me of when a friend of mine in college composed a piece called “Concerto With Active Frogs”, weaving a recording of frog sounds into a musical piece. It’s on Youtube if you want to look it up. I’m going to post yours on facebook and tag her.

    • Hi Leah. I found Anne LeBaron – Concerto For Active Frogs. It’s quite modern and brought to mind John Cage.

      • That’s the one! Haven’t heard from her yet (she stays busy) but I’m betting she’ll like your arrangement!
