Laurie studies in the old part of the Zimmerman Library on UNM Campus while she waits for me to pick her up after work. Zimmerman Library was designed and built by John Gaw Meem in 1938, and it has been in continuous use for the past 76 years. Built in his famous Pueblo Style, Zimmerman is still the heart of UNM’s campus with over a million visits per year according to a booklet celebrating Zimmerman’s 75 years of history. You can read more about John Gaw Meem and the Zimmerman library at http://library.unm.edu/zimmerman75/meem.php.
You can see from Laurie’s interior photo and my exterior photo how Zimmerman’s high ceilings and incandescent lighting creates a warm, magical atmosphere that is calming and conducive to study. Although the study tables look empty, Laurie said there are students at nearly every table, but they are either sitting close to the walls or their backpacks and computers mark their presence.

Such a beautiful building!
And it’s so New Mexico.
Beautiful, inside and out! Lucky girl. 💫
Thanks, Beautiful! She said she is very grateful to be able to study there.
That is good. Gratitude makes the experiemce all the better. 💫
Yes it does. BTW. I hope you didn’t mind me calling you Beautiful? I was thinking beautiful is the other side of ugly:)
I didnt mind. Because of the name of my site people often say that. Thank you Timothy.
Such an amazing building
Thanks!
Great architecture and colors. 🙂
Thanks, John!
That is a beautiful old building. It does look solid, warm and inviting. You and Laurie live in an area steeped in culture and beauty in many forms. Thank you both for bringing it to the rest of us.
Thanks, Lavinia! There’s a lot of interesting things in NM.
Love it.
Thanks, Janet!
I love this style of building. You’ve done a great job capturing the mood of the place. I feel like I should whisper as I view the interior shot. I am typing as softly as I can. Hope I don’t disturb anyone.
Laurie said you totally got the feel of the place. Thanks!
