Wishful thinking for Downtown Albuquerque.

No moon this morning. It was hiding behind the clouds at dawn.

I attended a meeting about a conservation project in north Corrales where runoff and treated wastewater from Rio Rancho dumps into the Rio Grande. The Nature Conservancy is working with various agencies to use the runoff and wastewater to retore the area into a wetland. Therefore, I did not get out to say hi to the owls and cranes tonight.

The clouds over the Sandias this morning made beautiful cloudscapes, some with rainbow colors made by the rising sun reflecting off ice crystals in the thin clouds. Other clouds cast shadows as the sun rose above them.

Travel Photo Challenge Day 8 Taos Mountains

Dawn glow

We go to Taos in northern New Mexico for Day 8 of the Travel Photo Challenge. In August 2009, Laurie and I attempted to hike to Wheeler Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico at 13,167 ft (4,013 m). We got up to around 12,500 feet and turned around because the weather was becoming cold and stormy. We still had a wonderful time with beautiful scenery.

Moon & Venus On The Rise

Moon & Venus rising at 6:00 am.

I woke up at 5:45 am this morning to a sliver moon peeking through the window and Venus hanging out in the trees. I got up, put on shoes, checked the temp, 18º F outside, grabbed my camera, and headed out into the cold and dark. I took a series of photos of the moon and Venus rising over the next hour.

Venus had disappeared and the moon was just barely a sliver as the sun was getting ready to rise at 7:03 am.

The moon had faded to a tiny sliver by 7:04 am.
