Sunrise
Wishful thinking for Downtown Albuquerque.
No moon this morning. It was hiding behind the clouds at dawn.
I attended a meeting about a conservation project in north Corrales where runoff and treated wastewater from Rio Rancho dumps into the Rio Grande. The Nature Conservancy is working with various agencies to use the runoff and wastewater to retore the area into a wetland. Therefore, I did not get out to say hi to the owls and cranes tonight.
The clouds over the Sandias this morning made beautiful cloudscapes, some with rainbow colors made by the rising sun reflecting off ice crystals in the thin clouds. Other clouds cast shadows as the sun rose above them.
Ice crystals reflecting colors in the clouds.
Moon in the western sky before sunrise.
Moon behind Mama Owl before sunrise
Daddy Owl watching the birds flit around below him at sunset.
Mama Owl hopped over to another branch so I could get a shot of her from the levee after sunset.
We go to Taos in northern New Mexico for Day 8 of the Travel Photo Challenge. In August 2009, Laurie and I attempted to hike to Wheeler Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico at 13,167 ft (4,013 m). We got up to around 12,500 feet and turned around because the weather was becoming cold and stormy. We still had a wonderful time with beautiful scenery.
The photographer of the day is picpholio nature photography at https://picpholio.wordpress.com/. picholio combines photography with his love for nature, walking and cycling. He mainly shoots in Belgium and the surrounding countries and does especially great macro photography.

6:00 am. Venus rising in the dark at dawn.
Glenda looking cool on top of an armario at noon.
Sasha napping at noon in the new hammock that replaced one of the worn-out burlap hammocks.
6:00 pm Saturn and Jupiter closing in on each other.
A closer view of Saturn and Jupiter at 6:00 pm. The lights coming off at an angle from Jupiter might be a few of its 79 moons.
Moon & Venus rising at 6:00 am.
I woke up at 5:45 am this morning to a sliver moon peeking through the window and Venus hanging out in the trees. I got up, put on shoes, checked the temp, 18º F outside, grabbed my camera, and headed out into the cold and dark. I took a series of photos of the moon and Venus rising over the next hour.
6:25 am using a different exposure.
Venus had disappeared and the moon was just barely a sliver as the sun was getting ready to rise at 7:03 am.
The moon had faded to a tiny sliver by 7:04 am.
