Sad Day

Sunrise

Laurie called me early this morning because Marble Kitty was having problems breathing. She took her to an emergency vet, and Marble had fluid pressing on her lungs. The vet removed the fluid and Marble had a collpsed lung with a mass in it. A long story short, she didn’t make it. Sadly we lost one of the sweetest kitties.

Between back and forth with Laurie on Marble’s condition, Marina, Socrotis and I went out to buy bread, and then in the afternoon we went to dinner in a restaurant by the sea.

It’s been raining on and off all day, and the area has received “buckets of rain” over the past few months, so the vegetation is green and wildflowers are blooming everywhere.

Dinner

View from the table

Local black cat

Long Legged Buzzard

Assissin Bug

Local frogs

We heard a chirping sound that sounded like a bird, but it was coming from under a concrete slab, and Merlin Bird ID could not identify what it was. Marina looked under the concrete but could see anything. I took photos under the concrete, and after I processed the photo, I found the frog on the right-hand photo with its head sticking up out of the water.

Houses with a great view

Handicap access to the water

This sweet dog came out to greet us

Sunset to the east

Cool lights over the dining room table in the Airbnb I’m staying in down the road from Marina and Socrotis.

  1. This seems like a silent reminder of how life goes on even in grief. Marble Kitty feels like such a sweetheart and I feel bad she never made it. Hope the presence of other animals especially the cute dog at least give a bit of relief from grief.

    • One of the local kitties meowed at the door last night. I let him in, and he comforted me for a while before going back outside. Thanks, Tony and Aby.

  2. Oh no, I’m so sorry about Marble! Was she called Marble because of her markings, or because she was small and round?

The local black cat is an impressive beast. I bet people see it and mistake it for some supernatural big cat.

    • Thanks, King and I. Marble was a tortoiseshell calico. She was small, but sassy: https://wp.me/p1yQyy-bF0. If you search Marble on my blog, you will see how sassy she was. She was also the sweetest and most lovable kitty. When she wanted attention, we had to give her attention.

      • Aww, torties are always small and sassy! We had one when I was a kid, called Missy, and she was a proper psycho! 🤣🤣🤣 They’re such strong characters and they won’t take any nonsense from anyone.

    • It’s too sad. Marble was a special kitty. It’s very nice out here. Thaksm Craig.

  3. So sorry to read this sad and painful news about Marble, Tim. I hope you can find some comfort in the beautiful and warm memories.

  4. Love the photos….especially the lonely little sailboat on the hill and the symmetry of the houses on the hill with such a great view……So sorry about your friend and her sweet cat.

    Pam

  5. So sorry to hear about Marble. You’ll miss her terribly and we’ll miss her photos. How old was she? We lost our Tortie too young too. How fab to spend time with Marina too.

  6. Such sad news of the loss of sweet Marble. I always liked seeing the photos of her. We lost our tortoiseshell Gretchen a few years ago. They sure are sweet, and have that tortie ‘catatude’ for sure. 🙂

    • Thanks, Tiffany. Marble will be missed by all. It’s really beautiful and peaceful south of Athens in Keretea, Attica.

  7. On no 🥺 Poor Marble. I’m so sorry to hear it. I’m astonished by how close to the sea your dining table was! Looks like a great spot. Look at that big furry greater 😀 He looks like he could give good cuddles.

    • Thanks, Kelly. The restaurant was only a few feet from the sea. The dog was a big, lovable hunk who was so happy to see us.

  8. To share these lovely photos while surely feeling the loss of Marble is a bittersweet thing, Tim. So sorry for your loss; sending much love to you and Laurie.

I am only glad you had Marina and Socratis to keep you company!

    • Marina and Socrotis have been super company. We have had a great time hanging around and visiting. Marble will be missed by all. Thanks, Dale.

  9. I will miss Marble, too. She was a beautiful kitty. We have lost cats to various tumors and such over the years here, and it is never easy. Much love to you and Laurie.

Love the photos from your trip to see Marina and Socrotis.

  10. Sorry to learn about the loss of your kitty. I lost two kitties weeks apart recently. It’s never easy. I now have one, the sweetest calico ever.

    • Thanks, Madison. It is so hard to lose our lovely kitties. Calico kitties are wonderful.

  11. Oh Tim, I’m soooo sorry to hear about Marble. That’s soooo sad. What a loss. My condolences to you and Laurie! Ugh.. I’m sorry you weren’t there to say goodby! 💕

  12. Awww…so sad about Marble.

Deepest sympathies to you and Laurie. I’m sure the kitties miss Marble.

    Beautiful shots! xx
