Dawn

Jake and I walked down to check on Nora and Oseric Owl.

The first thing I noticed is the tree had broken off at a foot above the nest.

All the sawed-up logs from the foreground to the background are from the parts of the tree that broke off.

I could not tell if Nora was sitting on her eggs with the naked eye; however, after processing the image, I can see her back feathers.

I looked around and found Oseric sitting in his favorite lookout spot, watching over Nora.

I used this photo last May to illustrate where the owlets were in the tree. Approximately 50 feet of the tree broke off just above the nest and crashed into the alpacas’ pen below. The owlets will have little shade and no branches to explore until they are old enough to fly to other trees this year.

I hope none of the alpacas were injured when the tree broke off and fell into their pen.
A beautiful dawn! Owlets! Nora must be a proud momma! Such cute fuzzy alpacas! You get to see great animals on your walk, Tim! I’m jealous! I would have to go out to the countryside to see something like an owl or alpaca lol
Thanks, Becky.
Holy hannah! That could have been even more disastrous! Thankfully none of the critters were hurt with the breaking off of that huge branch.
Glad to see the owls back on these pages. The lack of shade over the nest will surely be a bummer for them.
Love your photos, Tim.
No shade will be hot, but they will manage. Thanks, Dale.
Of course they will. 😊
I’m glad the owls survived the tree breaking.
Thenks, Brad.
Time has certainly flown by! I am looking forward to this year’s owlets.
Another year. Amazinig. Thanks, Susan.
What a shame about the owls’ tree.
It really is. Thanks, Liz.
You’re welcome, Tim.
Oh, goodness! I hope they’re all (owls & alpaca) okay!!
I read that locals are on the BigBear Eagle nest cam, hoping for eaglets any day now.
Eaglets are fun, also Thanks, leenda.
Thank you very much, Timothy, for your touching sad story!
You are welcome, Martina.
Wowls!!!!!! yes I will tell he oldest grnadie. BUT the middle one?? She loves owls. SHe has rows of toy ones, all shapes and sizes. I just got your email and will reply and lsiten later. Thank you TImnothy
You are welcome, Shey. Owls are so much fun. I’m happy your grandies love them.
Oh they do indeed. So sweet. And the youngest, who is four, loves going round our gardne to count the stone ones I have.
WP made my comment vanish, so here’s my second try:
Oh, No! Poor owls [assuming no alpaca was harmed] and poor tree! So, did the tree die or will it grow leaves, providing even little shade to the owl family? At least the branch broke off above the nest.
The tree was healthy given the drought conditions. High winds got a hold of it and snapped it off. Cottonwoods are brittle and break much easier than most trees. Thanks, Marina.
That means that it will grow new branches and leaves…
Not any time soon.
The owlets are totally camouflaged in the tree. There’s so much going on in this post., including the shadow of man with dog:). It’s lovely to see Oseric on the look out. Glad that none of the critters were hurt…..x
Thanks, Janet.
Great you’re keeping up with the owls. We have a tawny owl just moved into a tree outside our house. Noisy being!
Owls are noisy, but I love listening to them hoot. Thanks, couriers.
Looks like you and Jake are getting in some good walks. I am glad to hear the nesting cavity was spared. I am looking forward to report of the owlets.
Thanks, Lavinia.
SAd, and good at the same time, Sir.
Thanks, Inchy.
Are the owls all OK?
The owls are ok. Thanks, Brad.
At least the nesting site was still in tact Tim.. Lets hope they can raise their family okay despite the damage…
And that is a big chunk of the tree that fell…
Good to see they are still there and have not deserted their tree.. ❤
Wow, that is a shame – at least the Owls appear to have survived at this point…and the Alpacas! Keep us posted, hopefully they will be able to adapt – they have been a hardy couple so far.
This is the second big tree that has fallen down around them. The first one destroyed their nest, and they moved to this tree. Thanks, Brian.
Terrible. I hope the owls and alpacas will be okay. And the poor nest…no shade or branches for the wee owlets. The rain as well. Fingers crossed.
They will do well. Owls are hardy. Thanks, Gigi.
Happy to know that. Thank you.
The poor owls must have been terrified, and still anxious. The alpacas almost as much. Such a shame. Hugs.
Thanks, Teagan.
How awful! I hope all the animals are safe.
At least the nest part of the tree is okay.
Will they be alright with less shade? I hope no llamas were hurt!
Thanks Tim!
The owls will do fine in the sun. Thanks, Resa.
Whew!
Oh no … so pleased the owls are ok. Shame it was their tree … Looking forward to ‘owl’ news
