I was inspired to write this song after reading an article in the New York Post by Isabel Vincent about Julio Santana who retired as a hitman after 47 years. The story fascinated me, and the fact that he could live long enough to retire without getting knocked off seemed incredible. I worked on this song for over two years. The lyrics and music went through many rewrites before I came up with the final version of the song. Whether Julio’s story is real or not, Ms. Vincent wrote about it and I put it into a song.
Off Center & Not Even 
Wow, it was a fantastic piece! I initially thought it got dark too fast, but Ofcourse, what was I expecting of a song with the title “hitman.” I loved how it went with the rhythm, the drum beats and the music. Truly enjoyed!
Thanks, Sam. It starts off dark. Rain forest justice is brutal. As I mentioned the lyrics and music went through many revisions. The lyrics and rhythm ended up being like a hyper ballad.

I commented on Masticadores, but I’ll mention here too that I loved this one and I think it’s my favorite of your songs. The storytelling and the complex questions of morality and justice in the lyrics so impressive and I thought it paired with the music so well. The work that you put into it really shows. This song is really impressive!
Thanks, JYP. When I read the article and thought about Julio murdering a man for a Coca Cola just seemed incredible. And then the idea that 10 Hail Marys and 20 our Fathers were sufficient penance, while not surprising, seemed like a pittance of a penance. To think that a man’s life is worth so little whether or not he raped the girl. The same for a young woman who’s only sin was being on the wrong side of politics. There are so many issues about morality and justice in that story.
