Me and My MX-5

Sometimes when a good deal comes along, you just can’t pass it up. And when the deal happens to be your dream car, you really don’t pass it up. I’ve been looking at the Mazda Miata MX-5 RF (retractible fast-back), but I figured it would be awhile before I bought one. I saw a gray MX-5 RF for sale in a lot on my way home Thursday, stopped, photographed the vin, and sent it to Tristan to get the history of the car for me. Tristan works at Garcia Honda in Albuquerque, and, as it turned out, they got an MX-5 trade-in that was a much better deal. I went up and drove it, and that was it, Tristan sold me the car Friday afternoon, and I picked up the car and drove it home this afternoon after the inspections were completed. ย Now I’m the proud owner of a 2017 Mazda Miata MX-5 RF with 7,700 miles on it. ย It’s like brand new.

After I got it home and got it insured, Laurie and I went out for a drive about 4:00 PM. We stopped at her parent’s house to show them the car, did a few photos (below), and then drove around with the Bose stereo blasting out tunes from my phone (bluetooth connection). After we got home about 6:00 PM, I decided I needed to write a song about the car. I scribbled down the lyrics, went into my darkroom/music studio, came up with the music, and recorded the song “Me and My MX-5” (above).

Me and My MX-5

Lyrics and Music by Timothy Price

Me and my MX 5
Oh how we like to drive
Don a hat, hide the top
Drive and drive, we never stop

1st gear roars off the line
2, 3, 4, 5 takes no time
6th gear gets me in the jive
cruising along at 95

Driving my MX-5
Makes me feel like Iโ€™m alive
In Soul Red, black racing stripe
The really cool, sporty type

      • Tim, can you please tell Resa I cannot like or make a comment on her blog!
On your site I can log in and make a comment. Thereโ€™s no log in spot in her site. WordPress woes again! Thanks! ๐ŸŽถ Christine

      • I sent her an email. I think a lot of us would like to know what to know what the WP weirdnesses that plague us are.

      • Thanks! I have the same trouble with other posts too. And I just give up trying! Too bad! Iโ€™d like to connect with more bloggers! ๐Ÿ˜’

      • Yep! Iโ€™ve got the free WP so go online to ask questions. It doesnโ€™t seem to fix the problem as I sign into WP when asked to like on Resaโ€™s site, and it kicks me back to sign in. Do it doesnโ€™t take. ๐Ÿคจ

      • I had the free forever. But when I moved back from my T&L photos site, I had to upgrade my WP in order to post music and videos. I’m sure I have many more privileges other than being able to post music and videos.

      • Yep, you do! Maybe when I publish the book, Iโ€™ll have to change to hosted. Makes sense! Thanks, Tim for your help! ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ“š

  1. Oh yeah…!! That’s one great looking car, my friend! And, I think that it suits you perfectly. Must be fun cruising the high ways and good music coming out of the speakers.

  2. Nice ride Tim! I’ll have to check it out. I’d love to have a nice sporty car too, but at 6′ 7″ this Sad Little Giant just doesn’t fit :))

  3. Nice ride, Tim. Don’t double clutch too much โ€ฆ red is the favorite color of most police agencies to ticket for speed. Enjoy those hairpins. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks, David. We’ve been driving red sporty cars for years with out getting tickets. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

  4. OK, I’m seriously jealous although in the wet tropics it might not be the best car for me. Love the cap….perhaps some matching driving gloves to complete the outfit. Enjoy the experience.

    • Thanks. I hadn’t thought about driving gloves. I never wear driving gloves. Maybe one white glove like Michael Jackson.

  5. Ooooh yeah! ๐Ÿ™‚ This looks like loads of fun. Congratulations on getting your dream car for you and Laurie to enjoy! I feel the same about my 350Z convertible. Some of the most stressful days can be forgotten when you go for a stroll on a moonlit night with the top down….

Enjoy! I know you’ll make many great roadtrip memories.

    • Thanks, Lavinia! It’s a lot of fun and getting great gas mileage. Is Seabiscuit still going?

      • Old Seabisquit (yes, I spell it that way to distinguish the car from the horse) is still going, closing in on 450,000 miles. ๐Ÿ™‚
