I’ve visited a couple of impressive troglodyte settlements in France and was lucky enough to visit a family in Tunisia who have carved their home out of rock. Your images of Mesa Verde show the signs of an amazing community.
I can’t remember the name of the place in Tunisia, just that it was a home, still lived in and extended into the rocks as needed when the family grew. It was somewhere in the same area as the original Star Wars film set.
What an extraordinary place Timothy – I hope the climb up there wasn’t as steep as it looks in that last photo – I’d have been suffering vertigo I think!
Thanks, Jane. You walk down into the dwellings from above and then climb out on a long ladder and steep rocks if you don’t want to go back the same way.

Thanks, Teagan!
I would love to visit here! Great photos
Thanks, Teri!
I’d love to visit this place! It must have been amazing to see all this in reality, not just in photos or videos!
Thanks, Maya! You can’t really get the scale or feel of it from photos or video.

Sounds scary either way but probably worth it from your pictures!
Loved seeing this post! I was there about 15 years ago! Loved seeing that it is being well taken care of.
Thanks, Nancy!
