Laurie used the directions and proportions on the wrapper from a Tres Tazas bar to make her own recipe for what comes out to about 2 gallons of Spanish Chocolate.
We had our annual Spanish Chocolate party to celebrate Reyes (Three Kings / Epiphany) last night.
When the chocolate cools, it becomes more like chocolate pudding.
Tristæn cutting the cheese and preparing tapas
One of Tristæn’s arrangements of Spanish cured meats and queso Manchego.
Plate of queso Manchego
When the party was over, the cured meats were gone, most of the chocolate was eaten, and half a plate of queso Manchego was left over.
It was a wonderful evening, not only full of wonderful food, but also – not surprisingly – some really interesting people, some of whom I not yet met 🙂 My mom and I thank you and Laurie for the evening.
(PS – I must play with the video capabilities of my camera!)
Tim, I don’t know how you find the time to do such a professional, detailed photo post every day.
I think I’ve learned more about New Mexico’s traditions from reading your posts these past few months than I did in five years of living there!
I hope all of ya’ll are enjoying the satisfaction of a successful gathering. Hugs!
That looks like a wonderful party! Will have to look up that chocolate recipe. A plate of cheese left and Spunk looking up…in our house that would be a cat calculating amount of thrust needed to achieve vertical lift off to reach that plate of cheese. 🙂
Wonderful:)
Thanks, Janet!
So sorry I missed this party… and especially the Spanish Chocolate part! 😉
Thanks, Herman! We would have loved to have you and Mr. Bowie at the party. Maybe one of these years.
When can I come over?
You are welcome to come over anytime you happen to be in the Albuquerque area. We’ll make chocolate for you.

Thanks, Teagan! I wish I had more time to get out to more festivals around the state. There are so many interesting places and traditions in NM.

Thanks, Lavinia! I’ll send you the recipe. Spunk was actually a little worn out, believe it or not?
Oh my! You make me want some chocolate!
Thanks, Sharon! Women need chocolate. It’s good for you 😉
¡Qué rico!
!Muchas gracias, Jack!

Fabulous! 🙂 that cat is something. Give him a big pat from me …
Thanks, Julie! And Spunk thanks you for the extra pat.
I’ve never had Spanish chocolate, but I’ve never met a chocolate I didn’t like! Spunk is great – I’m glad you included him in the series of photos.
I guarantee you would love Spanish chocolate, Janna! Spunk likes to be in the middle of things as much as possible.
there goes my diet plan…beautiful post!
Nah! Chocolate is health food. 😉
Mmmm… everything looks so very good! I’m glad that you celebrate Tres Reyes Magos feast. Spunk looks like he had a great time.
Thanks Juanita! I must apologize for not inviting you. I either don”t have you in my contacts or I over looked you. Either way, I am very bad. Sorry.
