  1. Lovely spring flowers! Ours are a bit behind you here (we had snow over the weekend). In our garden, the snowdrops are just on their way out, the crocuses are just about in full bloom and the daffodils are two or three weeks away.

    • You are way, way north of us, but we are 1524 meters above sea level, so our flowers aren’t terribly out of sync for the differences in latitude and the 7 time zones that separate our gardens. Two major problems for our garden is 1) we are high desert, so water is scarce. 2) We get killing frost up to the end of May, sometimes into early June.

      • My geographical knowledge is shockingly sparse … 7 time zones; that’s something to try and get my head around! We’ve got some lovely primroses in flower at the moment. It’s been the wettest winter since records began here in the UK, so it is lovely to see the garden waking up …

        • Last year we had virtually 0 precipitation from January 1st until the 2nd week of July. It was super dry, and the dryness was even more shocking coming back home after spending 5 weeks in a wetter than normal France in the middle of June.

Then the skies let loose and we got over 25 cm of rain from the 2nd week of July to the end of August. Normally we get less than 20 cm of precipitation in a year. By the end of 2013, we had received 33 cm for the year.

          • The weather certainly does seem to be behaving rather erratically these days. We were in northern France last summer and had glorious weather every day, without a spot of rain. The previous year, we holidayed on the west coast of Scotland where they hadn’t seen rain from early May until we arrived in August. It poured every day we were there!
