Mama Owl: “I see you pesky paparazzo!”

Mama Owl feeding and grooming the owlets at dawn

Yes Mama Owl, the pesky paparazzo is still here!

On the virge of sunrise

Here comes the sun

“Talk to the tail, Paparazzo!”

A coyote pup followed Jake and I around on our walk in the bosque and on the riverbed.

Summer Tanager

The pup, standing closeby, cocked his head when I spoke to him

Bushtit

The little tike brushed by Jake while we were looking at the Bushtits, then he turned and looked at us like asking, “Well? Did you notice?” I saw him brush by Jakeout of the corner of my eye. Jake didn’t react, as if he didn’t notice.

Wile-E Coyote, Jr. followed us out to South Beach and acted like he wanted to play.

At first, he got too close for the Bazooka to focus (minimum focus in 11 feet), so I had to take a few steps back to get him into focus.

Jake ignored the poor pup’s advances, so the pup found a stick to play with, and then looked a bit sad as we waked away.

Blue Grosbeak

He was singing the blues

The pup followed us to the top of the levee and watched us cross the bridge over the Clearwater ditch, as we disappear behind the cottonwoods along the irrigation ditch. We didn’t see any adult coyotes on our walk in the bosque and on the riverbed.

A hummingbird with a “Don’t mess with me!” look on his face was between us and the coyote pup as we crossed the bridge on our way back to see what the owls were up to.

Mama Owl and Owlet where relaxing.

Laurie got good photos of the mama goose with her two goslings when she went out for a walk this morning.

Blue Grosbeak at dusk

I believe this is a female Black-headed Grosbeak.

Can you find the hummingbird and the grosbeak in the above photo?

OMG! So many sweet babies.
Love that coyote pup. Can they be domesticated? He seemed to like you and Jake. Why do I worry about animals?
The owlets are so fluffy and the goslings… what a treat.
Thank you Tim! xx
I don’t believe coyotes make very good pets. Lots of critters around. Thanks, Resa.
A wildlife cornucopia! Actually really surprised with the proximity of that pup. Possibly something happened to the mom as she would generally never allow that. Probably best Jake did not get attached or engage. How many owlets do you think that couple has fledged…has to be well into the 20s.
The owls have had three owlets more often than two, so it’s going to be closer to 30 owlets over the past 12 years. I think the little coyote was out wandering around. Mama was probably nearby but didn’t see Jake and me as a threat since the coyotes see us in the bosque every morning. Thanks, Brian.
That coyote was close. Wonder if he’ll be there the next time you walk. Lovely seeing all the pics. Felt as if I was there.
I did not see the coyote pup this morning. Maybe he got grounded. Thanks, Shey.
I love owls…..they look rather majestic in a way. The sunset photo is beautiful…….and I MIGHT have seen the two birds in the tops of two of the trees?!
Pam
The hummer is on the left; the grosbeak is on the right. Owls are the coolest. Thanks, Pam.
What a fabulous post. Birds and owls and that coyote pup, oh my!
The pup is a cute little guy. Thanks, Dale.
It seems you’re becoming quite the nature guide and paparazzi. I love moon image, coyote , and owls.
The owlets forced me to dust off the Bazooka lens and start shooting birds with it again. Thanks, Brad.
I like the ease of my cellphone but sometimes wish I had a real camera and big zoom lens.
I like the cell phone for photos, but it can’t get the distant birdies like a bazooka.
Fantastic wildlife series today! I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks, Liz. I’m happy you enjoyed our adventure.
You’re welcome, Tim.
That was absolutely beautiful. You have so much life around you. The owlets are adorable and so fuzzy. But the coyote is gorgeous and the fact that he wants to play with Jake makes me think he’s a bit lonely. He has beautiful eyes and the birds are so gorgeous. Just loved your post. Thank you.
It was a wild walk. Thanks, Gigi.
So much to appreciate in your neck of the woods. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome, Michele.
A beautiful day down in the bosque from surise to sunset, Tim. Pleanty of wildlife to watch! The coyote pup was interesting. That summer tannager is beautiful! I have not seenany up in my area, but I don’t know if they come this far north. Those owlets grow bigger by the day!
I haven’t seen coyotes the last couple of mornings. I heard them this morning. Thanks, Lavinia.
Oh wow Tim .. what a fabulous post! Such super photos .. How cute is that young coyote? I wonder where his mother was …
Thanks, Julie. I thinks she was taking a break for mother’s day.
Yes, one bird on each side.
What a fabulous spring in the bosque.
So, both owlets stared out in the nest. Hmmm…???
Both owlets were in the nest, and as long as they were together, Mama Owl fed both of them. After the larger one moved out of the nest, I only saw Mama feed the larger one. It doesn’t mean she wasn’t feeding the smaller one, but I suspect she wasn’t. Thanks, Resa.
Owl life…?
