Last Day In Dundee

She will have to explain this character in a comment. She told me about him, but I’m sure I would mix it all up.

I spent a delightful last day in Dundee walking around with Shey and John. We visited St Paul’s Cathedral, a museum, and the V&A. Then I stayed in the V&A until it was time to catch the bus to Edinburgh.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

The musem had excellent history of Dundee and Scotland.

This is an old movie theater turned into a performing arts space. John said the Lone Ranger visited the theater when he was five.

Precarious tagging

The gull on the streetlight was eyeing the man’s food.

Then we walked around in the old graveyard. The oldest headstones are from the late 1700s.

A lot of the graves had fascinating stone engravings.

The V&A us a wonderful place to hang out.

The have great exhibits

I was sitting in front of a window that leans out over the water.

On my walk to the bus stop

Caught a bus to the airport in Edinburgh

Spitfire outside the Airport Hilton in Edinburgh

    • A fabulous tour of Dundee , I can only imagine how fun to hang out with Shey and get a real life experience there. One day when I get to Wales ( my ancestral home) I will keep traveling up that way. Thank you for the pics, I’m morbidly intrigued with old cemeteries, great photos.

      • When you get up to Dundee, you have to visit that cemetery. It’s one of the best cemeteries I’ve been in (visited). My last name is Welsh, but according to the DNA testing my brother had done on my mom, I’m more Scottish than Welsh. Thanks, Holly.

        • I would like to wander through that cemetery , and meet the lovely Shey .
The most interesting cemetery I’ve visited has been the Key West Cemetery where the grave is that has the gravestone saying “ I told you I was Sick”. Continue to have a fabulous journey my friend.

          • The perfect headstone message. We found Serge Gainsbourg’s grave in a cemetery in Paris. That was exciting and interesting. Even though he was a huge star in France, his grave was a simple concrete slab and headstone, but there were Metro tickets, flowers, and lots of fresh, red lipstick prints from women kissing his grave 27 years after his death.

            • That would be great, lots of well known people buried in Paris that attract a lot fans to this day. Is that the same cemetery as Jim Morrison? His grave was also covered in memorabilia, fun. Morbid but fun.

              • No. JM is in Père Lachaise Cemetery in eastern Paris, and SG is in Montparnasse Cemetery in southern Paris.

                • I was in Paris but it didn’t occur to me to visit the cemeteries, I didn’t know much about JM. If I ever get the chance again I will visit Père Lachaise.

                  • Did you go to the catacombs in Paris? We didn’t go. I would have liked to have seen them.

                    • No, I didn’t even know about them. We were military and a bunch of us went together in a rented bus. 🚌 an all night trip … we hit the Moulin Rouge and other tourist spots, some off the main drag . Of course the Louvre, etc and up the Eiffel Tower. It was fun but exhausting as we wandered off from the others and strolled the Champs Élysée. Lots of great memories. Enjoy your journey , it’s fun to look back on.

                    • A funny story, on the way back to Spandgdahlem we had to stand on the bus and we kept hearing this whirring noise , it took us about an hour to figure out it was our camera taking pics of the inside of its case.

  1. Timothy you did our city proud. Lovely pics. I was telling a writer pal about you being here and I sent him a few links and he ses to tell you your pics are absolutely captivating. I will send the link to this post. The statue is Desperate Dan, with his dog., simply called Dawg and the little figure is Minnie the Minx. All were famous characters from DC Thomson comics, the Beano, the Dandy etc. Other famous characters were Oor Wullie and the Broons–they got yearly Christmas annuals. DC Thomson operated out of Dundee and were massive in newspaper, comic and magazine terms, having taken over an already huge industry here founded by John Leng who came up here from England and quite revolutionized the newspaper scene. D C T’s still operate today.

    • How cool is that? And there you are in Peru when not running around other parts of the world. Thanks, Geoff.

    • Dundee is a wonderful city with beautiful architecture and a lot of friendly folks. Thanks, Malcolm.

  2. Lovin’ the red gown, big time!

Those gravestones … I think there’s pirates buried there, the ones Shey talks about in her novels.. privateers.

You took really great shots, Tim, thank you!

    • We thought about you seeing all the gowns in the exhibits. I can imagine those are pirate graves. By far, the most interesting cemetery I’ve walked through. Thanks, Resa.

    • Tristan asked me to bring a regular camera. I took my Canon 7D with a 70-200mm lens. It was great for the birds. I still did many more photos with my phone than with the Canon. Thanks, Julie.
