This bronze plaque on the old Sears Building on the corner of 5th Street and Central Ave (Old Route 66) in Downtown Albuquerque gives a brief history of Albuquerque from 1946 when the photo on the plaque was taken to 1950…  Continue reading and see the same seen in 2017 at http://photos.tandlphotos.com/blog/2017/2/history-corner

    • I’ve grown up remembering a lot of the changes over the past 50 years (I don’t remember much before before 1966), so it’s not as foreign, but it’s fascinating all the same. Thanks, Liz.

    • Have you seen the Then and Now books where photographers find the same location as old photos like that? I love them, it’s so fascinating to see the changes or little changes in some cases. Thanks Resa!

      • Actually, I have seen some photos, but maybe not books. It really is a wonderful thing to compare the past to now through photography. I live by Sunnyside Beach in Toronto. I have taken some now photos f the Palais Royale to pair up with the old ones I have in an old book.

        • You don’t happen to know Miz Shaaz do you? She’s in Toronto and has a great fashion blog. Although, she hasn’t blogged in awhile.

  1. Memory in architecture and streets cape has been a primary interest for me for decades. This is one great plaque and story. The before and now-ish is great.

    • And the sad thing is the rioters broke out all the windows in the Kimo. It’s completely boarded up now. Who knows if the city will reopen it. Pretty much the same for most unprotected windows along Central Ave. in Downtown, Albuquerque. Thanks, Jordan.

      • That’s quite a shame, Timothy. There are whole sections that are boarded up interspersed through Philly. I was walking the other weekend when it was more intense, looting and the like, and this group of kids all hopped fists pumping in the air making their way down, “Going to PROTEST this shit, going to PROTEST,” with hefty bags in hand. I put up my palm — there were only about 5 of them. “DOODS. You’re going to protest?” “Ya Man you should, too.” “DOODS, you aren’t going to protest. You take signs to protests, not hefty bags. You’re going to loot.” I just did my normal step forward without losing eye contact to force the engagement… perfect, they Muttered this or that and grimaced knowingly and crossed the street. I just continued down the sidewalk where I was going. Sometimes you have to stop to transform trash to treasure.
