Thanks, Lavinia! I had flown with Carol Rymer Davis many times years ago. She and Richard Abruzzo were killed when their gas balloon crashed in the Adriatic Sea in 2009.
Carol worked at the same hospital as my father, and he, my sister and my bother-in-law were Carol’s and her husband’s crews from the first balloon fiesta in 1973. My sister and brother-in-law still crew for Carol’s son and daughter.
I helped crew on and off over the years, and got in several balloon flights. Laurie flew once with Carol before we were married.
Balloons are so pretty! Was this taken at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta? We went there a couple years ago when the event and the kids’ fall break matched up. It was amazing to see so many balloons in one place. Looked at going this year, but the timing was off.
Yes it is. The photos were taken from our property. The balloon field is across the river from us, but they launched from various fields around our property yesterday. The balloons were heading across the river to the balloon field for the bean bag drop competition when I got them flying into the rising sun.
