Beautiful closeup! Any idea what species? Yes, it is easy to forget flies are important pollinators, too. Eye color looks to be cinnabar? Some bristles on that tyke!
A friend of Susan’s said it’s a Tachinid fly (Tachinidae family). He said they are parasitic on a verity of insects. Some varieties attack budworms on roses. Since we have a lot of roses, that fly may be one of those varieties.
