In Case Of Emergency
Lightning Show
I was talking to an engineer, who is also an avid photographer, about taking lightning photos when I went up to pick up a piece of equipment he had been working on. We were noting that lightning is easy to photograph, but the danger made up for how easy it is to photograph. On may way home at 11:00 pm, there was a nice lightning show over the city, so I pulled off to the side of the road in the rain, set my camera on top of the car to stabilize it (didn’t have a tripod in the car), and took a few lighting photos before I got soaked in the rain. The results are interesting.
The Cat Before The Storm
I seem to get constant kitty help these days. I walked out of the store to discover a small super cell was forming overhead. I drove straight into the storm and got a great lightning show on the way home. For all the lightning and thunder over the past 24 hours, we only received 2/10 of an inch of rain.
Wet and Dark
We had been without power for 15 hours when we left for Tristan’s and David’s to charge devices and get on the Internet. About 7:00 pm last night very high winds and pouring rain that took out the power. Puck was out during most of the storm and finally came in soaking wet about 8:30, bringing a good amount of the 2 inches of rain we got with him. He reluctantly posed for photos illuminated by our flashlights, but finally gave me a nice “Chat Noir” pose. The neighbor’s corrals and arena were still flooded this morning, and the horses were fed on the high spots along the edges. The morning sun was brilliant in the fresh air, and the sunflowers and bees were happy after the rains.
Windows on Zuni
I took a short walk along Zuni this afternoon and got photos interesting windows along the way. We stopped by Tristan’s on the way home for the art show to check on the cats and water the plants and ended up in the middle of a major thunderstorm. Lighting knocked out the power, and buckets of water falling from the clouds flooded the streets. All the traffic lights north of Montaño were out on Coors Road, and visibility was almost zero at times making the six-way stop with the turns lanes at Paseo Del Norte and Coors tricky to negotiate with the traffic lights out. As we drove into Corrales the rain let up and we noticed the power was on at the Frontier Mart. By the time we got home, not a drop of rain had fallen, but at least we had power. The rain finally passed over our house, but it was mild compared to what we drove through from Tristan’s to Corrales in.
