The second evening I’ve seen this female mallard without her male companion.

The wind started blowing as Jake and I came back from our walk. The cotton was streaming from Resa’s tree.

Puddle Ducks

Bottoms up!

I believe this is a Swainson’s Hawk. As shot on the left, cropped, and processed on the right.

Cropped but not processed on the left. Processed on the right.

Willa was laid back tonight. Walter kept his head down with the hawk overhead.
We did not hear or see anything of Nora and Osric tonight. They were either still hunting, or they decided to go out on a TGIF owl date.

Following the ducks is a bit of “macro madness” — I found various interesting critters in the iris and roses. While I was out moving hoses to hook up drip systems, this female mallard hopped up on the neighbor’s wall. Then she hopped back down, and I could hear her making little quacking noises. When I looked over the wall, she was marching off with four ducklings in a row behind her.
