Día de los Muertos

November 2nd is Día de los Muertos. The Day of The Dead. The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. All Souls’ Day. Or whatever you want or don’t want to call it.

Like Phoenix rising
From the ashes of lost souls?
Or all souls today?

Alice Cooper Does New Mexico

I went to see Alice Cooper last night. It was a fun concert. He is still a great showman. I was about 25 feet from the stage in the center. I got four guitar picks thrown by the guitarists, but I only kept one. The people around me really wanted those picks. Nita Strauss does great hair whips. I caught a lot of them. Ryan Roxie and Tommy Hendriksen rocked on their guitars. Chuck Garric played a mean bass, and Glenn Sobel was fantastic on the drums. I assume Alice’s daughter, Calico, played the Pirate, but I can’t say for sure. Alice had a boa constrictor close to the same size as my Blue. Cold Ethyl had the same hair as Sia. Hmmm! Alice lost his head, of course. Here are some photos from the show. Click on the photos to enlarge them.

Paper Doll

Boogapony Holly with five outfits, hat, and shawl.

Resa at Graffiti Lux Art & More celebrated her 1500th post on Sunday. The post is full of wonderful drawings of Boogapony Holly, Holly’s poetry, her sister Boogalu Lulu, and excellent music videos, all telling a bit of history along the way. Boogapony Holly is one of Resa’s characters based on Holly at House Of Heart. Holly is one of my favorite poets. Holly is a doll.

Speaking of dolls, one of the coolest features of the post is a paper doll of Boogapony Holly and five outfits, a hat, and a shawl that you can print, cut out the doll and clothing, and try the different outfits on Boogapony Holly.

I printed out the doll and clothes, mounted the doll on cardstock so she could stand, cut out the clothing, and tried the different outfits on Boogapony Holly. They fit perfectly. I was so impressed with Resa’s skill and genius that I photographed Boogapony Holly in each of her outfits. There is one close shot and one shot with a background added for each outfit. The balloon photos are from Sunday’s mass ascension.

27 Days to AIBF

Dawn

A thunderstorm passed through this afternoon and produced 0.02 inches of rain. Not much precipitation, but looking on the bright side, that was double the rainfall we got in July.

Balloons were flying this morning. We should start seeing more balloons as the Balloon Fiesta draws near.

Gaggle of Ghouls

There are no bones about it. Home Depot rules when it comes to Halloween props displays.

I had to go to Home Depot to get a hose coupler Lowe’s* doesn’t carry and was greeted by a massive display of Halloween props. When it comes to skeletons, they a well-stocked.

While I was photographing this display, a man walked up and said his wife looked like the witch. I told him not to let her hear that. He said no, seriously, they really look like each other. It’s probably good to have a prop as a doppelgänger. As the prop is less likely to get you in trouble.

The Mash Monster is bizarre.

I’m not sure what the black skeletons with the bat or cat ears are.

Costco’s Halloween selection is lame, with a scrawny mummy. Costco has Christmas stuff already.

I found this guy to be the scariest of all. Imagine him going medieval on your nuts!

*I don’t prefer Lowe’s over Home Depot. Lowe’s is more convenient.
