Teagan’s vocals on White Rabbit are flawless. Click on the image to see her video.
Teagan is celebrating her birthday with a tribute to Grace Slick by singing a cover of Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit, the iconic song based on Lewis Carrol’s Alice in Wonderland and associated stoies set to a relentless Spanish Paso-doble (Spanish march) rhythm. It is probably one of the best known songs from the psychedelic 60s.
I was nine or ten years old in 1968 or 1969 when I first heard White Rabbit played on a local radio station. Not being an avid Lewis Carroll reader at the time, I had no idea what the lyrics were about other than tripping. I actually thought it had something to do with Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant, which was released in 1967 a few months after White Rabbit, but I had heard Guthrie’s album before I heard “ White Rabbit” played on the radio.

White Basket
Wonderful performance, Teagan, and accompanying video. I tried to leave a comment on your blog…
Happy Birthday whenever your official birthday is, or today if that works better…🙂
Anyway, I enjoyed this a lot.
Thanks very much for this lovely comment, Susan. I’m so happy you enjoyed it. I’m sorry you had trouble commenting. I looked in pending and in spam… WordPress is always messing around. Hugs.
Teagan did a great job with the song. I was impressed with how she nailed the notes as I was putting the song together and doing the final mix. Her vocals were flawless. Thanks, Susan.
Tim, you are far too kind. Thank you. 🙂
Tim, this is the best birthday present! Thank you for your wonderful introduction and for sharing the video. I enjoyed reading your memory of the song. And I love White Basket! 🐱 Hugs.
Thanks, Teagan. I still think of Alice’s Restaurant when I hear “Go ask Alice…” Guthrie’s song was a protest song against the war and the draft, so it’s fitting for your video.
I remember Alice’s Restaurant too… and having some kind of confusion over the title… I think mine was about the TV sitcom though…Not sure of the name, but Alice and Flo worked at Mel’s Diner.
I think the full title of the song, more of a story, was “Alice’s Restaurant Masacre.” It was side A of the album, about 18 minutes long. My favorite story song on side B was “ The Motorcycle Song.” “I don’t want a pickle. I just want to ride my motorcicle. I don’t wanna die. I just want to ride my motorcy!” It had a good story with it, also.
Oh yeah, I remember that full title now — and that it was a very long song, although I don’t remember much. I don’t think it got much air time on my small town radio station. I don’t think I ever heard the B side. It sounds fun.
I think the only time the A side would be played on the radio is when the DJ needed to take a bathroom break.
Was just at Teagan’s wished her a Happy Birthday and thanked her for the wonderful video.
More impressive is Teagan’s singing.
I also like “White Basket”.. the parody

I never cared for the original, but I have a remix somewhere in the depths of my e-music that I enjoyed in the Napster days.
