He waited in the place where I park
Suddenly the sky came flowing down
Someone left the Jake out in the rain
And I don’t think I can take it
Because it took so long to groom him
And he looks like he will never be dry again, oh no!

*Based on the chorus of MacArthur Park. A song written by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb that was recorded first in 1967 by Irish actor and singer Richard Harris.

Don’t anyone leave the Jake out in the rain again,….
For sure. I left to go to Tristan’s and didn’t take him because I needed to put stuff in the cab of the truck. When I came back two hours later, he was sitting where I left him, all wet waiting for me. He got so excited when I came back. Laurie forgot he was outside in the rain. He’s a loyal dog. Thanks, Shey.
What a lovely, loyal dog right enough.
Clever verse Tim. May the grooming gods be kind.
Thanks, Brad.
It snowed up here all morning before we got a little light rain. Did Jake get snow or just rain?
He got both. We had giant flakes of snow. Thanks, Susan.
Poor doggie! He’s gorgeous. Love the altered song.
Happy Easter!

Oh, poor, bedraggled Jake . . . I never did understand “MacArthur Park.”
Other than being a weird love song, I never understood it either. Thanks, Liz.
You’re welcome, Tim.
I always thought of it as a (albeit weird) heartache song… Not just crying about the ended relationship (where a possible wedding was in his expectations) but crying in the rain… outside in the park (and outside the relationship). The (wedding)cake — the discarded relationship left in the park when the picnic was over… Seeing rain-washed trees/all the sweet green icing flowing down. But those are just the images in my mind when he sings it. The real meaning is probably Google-able.
Sorry to butt in Liz and Tim. Between the two of you that song is fully in my head now.
Good comment on the meaning. I think you are right. Laurie had similar things to say about the wedding cake when we were trying to figure out an inner rhyme for Jake in place of the groom. We could not come up with anything that made sense.
Better in your head than mine. I can’t get past the cake in the rain. Who leaves cake in the rain?
I think the cake in the rain is a metaphor, whereas the Jake in the rain is not.
Right, but a very clumsy metaphor!
It is. And while we find it awkward and silly, a lot of people didn’t, because the song was a number one hit. But then again, maybe there are actually a lot of people who leave cakes out in the rain.
I guess stranger things have happened!
Love the Jake! Looks exactly like my Captain Jack
Was Captain Jack named after Billy Joel’s song, Jack Sparrow, someone else or no one else? Thanks, Gary.
Captain Jack Aubrey from the Patrick O’Brien series of books. A series of historical fictions about the British Royal Navy in the 19th century.
The movie, Master and Commander, The Far Side of the World, released in 2003 covered the first 10 books. Russell Crowe played Captain Jack Aubrey.
I’ve read all 20+ books and really enjoyed them
Sounds like a good character.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
MacArthur Jake is melting in the dark
All the sweet, beige fur flowing down
Someone left my Jake out in the rain (woof!)
Another great variation of the chorus. Thanks, Resa.
Thank you to you, too!
Wonderful!
Thanks, Michele.
Oh no, poor MacArthur Jake and you!!!
Nice thinking with the song! 🎵
Thanks, Cindy.
It cooled him off.
Hope you are dry now Jake!
Thanks, Nancy.
Aw, wet or dry, he’s adorable.
He is adorabe. Thanks, Gigi.
Sometimes playing in the rain is fun, sometimes not. Jake doesn’t look too happy, but I’m sure he was happy when you got home!
He romped around with me when I got home. Thanks, Tiffany.
Plus the “Eau de Wet Dog” perfume.
Ha!!! I laughed so hard at the parody that I couldn’t breathe. Jake looks utterly unrepentant… even if a little annoyed at being damp. LOL… someone left the Jake out in the rain… Hugs.
You’re right about Jake being unrepentant. He went out first thing this morning and rolled in the vinca and came in all wet again. Thanks, Teagan.
Oh, no! Jake in the first photo is like: “Seriously, man? A. you leave and B. you let those rain clouds pour?” I hope he didn’t need much grooming. I gotta tell you though Jake, you look great rained too!
He went out first thing this morning, rolled in the vinca, and came back in all wet. I said “Seriously man?” He looked at me like, “What’s your problem?” Thanks, Marina.
ha ! Love this take on MacArthur Park and that shot of Jake. You probably know by now I’m a dog person not a cat person 🙂
Thanks, John.
Haha, don’t think poor ole Jakey would have been singing in the rain. Maybe howling. 😂
Thanks, Miriam.
Oh no, poor Jake! Poor you!
He likes getting wet. Thanks, Robbie.
I remember that song! Jake does look a bit wet there. 🙂
And I believe remade back in ’70 by Waylon Jennings and then in an era I prefer to forget, Donna Summer put it to disco around ’78. Now I have some serious desire for cake (dry of course ha).
Donna should have left the cake out in the rain. Thanks, Brian.
He’s sure to bark … so
don’t leave MacArthur Jake
drying in the park 😎
Excllent. Thanks, David.
