Hi Robin. We call them zipper spiders because of the zipper they spin in their web. There scientific name is Argiope aurantia and have all kinds of common names like zigzag spider, yellow garden spider, corn spider and so on. I have a video of a Zipper Spider rolling up a grasshopper in her web, but I haven’t had time to process the video.
A deadly kiss 🙂
That it is. Thanks, Harry.
Insanely excellent photo Timothy.
Thanks, Cindy.
We have one of those at the corner of our shed that we have been taking pictures of too. It’s fascinating to watch.

Cool! It’s such an interesting looking web.
Creepy but so cool. I am always snapping pictures and videos of spiders, and there sure are a lot of them this time of year!
Hi Tiffany. This is spider season, although it’s starting to cool down here, so I’m seeing fewer of them.
Love the spider! I have not seen any orb weavers in our garden yet, but it has been wet and cold recently.
We had quite a few spiders this year.
