I had to stop by the bank on Saturday morning — the parking lot was empty. When I stepped out to the car, a crow was standing in the parking space next to me. I took on photo of him, and then got closer for a second shot. He just stood there, kind of like Foghorn Leghorn, cocked his head sideways and gave me a “Go, I say go away boy, you bother me” look.

That is a wise looking gold crow and he looks like he is saying, “Feed me or move on.”
Thanks! Who knows what he was really thinking, but he was giving up ground it his parking space.
That second picture is awesome!! Great shot!! The crow is kind of looking at you and saying ‘What do you want?’ 🙂
Thanks, Constance! Kinda of like “What’s up?”
Exactly! 🙂
Crows are so bold! I have noticed this especially in parking lots they seem to be used to people and do not shoo or run away! Wonderful photos! I think he posed for you!
Thanks, Michelle. They sure can be bold, and they are really smart besides. We get hundreds of them flying south over our house every evening. I always think about Alfred HItchcock’s “The Birds” when I see that many crows flying over.
Wonderful shots!
The parking lot here has a different bird that seems almost as bold. I’ll see if it is possible to get a phone pic. I have not seen them in large flocks, though, so they aren’t scary except when they shriek.
Whatever they are, they don’t seem as smart as crows, though.
Thanks, Susan. I remember when we were in Lubbock for a math convention in 2011, there were quite a few magpies around. They were quite bold and not easily intimidated. They let me get very close to them.
Great photos, Timothy! We had one crow a couple of years ago strut up and down the rows of grapes is if he was checking out the progress of “his” crop. Didn’t have a camera on me at the time. They are really intelligent birds.
Thanks, Lavinia! You need to get a carry camera so you are always prepared.
Had to laugh at the Foghorn Leghorn reference… I love Foghorn (my text message alert use to be his, “no, no, no, you’re doin’ it all wrong.” Crows and pigeons are bolder than most other birds. We have some crows around here that eat pretty well.. they are bigger than some small dogs.
Thanks, Janna! I have a sign on the end of my desk that has a picture of Foghorn Leghorn on it with “I say! I say! Don’t bother me…” written next to him. Of all the people who come into bother me and Bruce multiple times a day, only one person has ever paid attention to the sign.
I love it when animals show ‘human’ emotions…
Thanks, Herman! We humans find it easy to anthropomorphize animals. It makes me wonder if the crow was zoomorphizing me?
Crows really are amazing intelligent birds. So… no offence to them when i say there are consistently more of them in DC than i have ever seen in a single spot. I swear i think it has something to do with all the politicians…
😈
Thanks, Teagan! I think word got around that the politicians are giving free handouts in DC. We already established that crows are not dumb.
That crow has a no nonsense look on his face! You were bothering him, that is plain to see. LOL Love, Amy
Thanks, Amy! He was bothered 😉
