  1. Great shots and love the headline. I took your advice and got the 70-200mm lens today. Very excited to try it out tomorrow. Also I’m covering an equestrian event this weekend and hoping to get some great shots with it! Thanks again. 🙂

    • Thanks! Did you get the f/4 or f/2.8? Either one, you will not be disappointed. Should work well for an equestrian event. Are your cats going to allow you to put up some horse photos on your blog?

      • I got the 2.8. (a little cheaper) and for me I think it will work great. The cats were put to rest when I started a new blog called Back Home In Bromont. I covered a couple of events already, including the CCI 3Star. It’s a qualifier for the US and Canadian riders for the world championships this fall.
        Again thanks for the help.

        • The 2.8 is usually a lot more expensive, you must of gotten a great deal. I hadn’t even noticed you added the Back Home In Bromont page. I don’t always pay attention to the headers on the blogs I follow. Cool blog. My dad used to work some of the equestrian events out here as a ham radio operator at some of the jumps. They used ham radio operators at the jumps to call in problems or when riders and horses went down.

          • Thanks for the follow. It’s pretty rough right now. But as of this weekend, which is the Driving qualifier for U.S. and Canadian riders, I’m hoping to add a little more polish. I now have full media credentials, so will be able to do a little more advance scouting. Plus I hope to get my timing down. Shooting horses is not quite the same as cats! A friend of mine, whose a photographer, told me about a camera shop, going out of business, so I got the 2.8 for about 40% off. It was the showcase display, but hell it works! I’ll have to tell the gang about your dad! Now they have “jump Judges” for every obstacle with high-tech radios. 🙂

            • Those are the kind of deals you want to take advantage of for sure. How many frames/second burst does your camera body do? I would definitely take advantage of multi-frame shooting to get several shots of the horses from the start of a jump through to the finish of the jump if your camera can do it.

              • I’ve been doing that. Not sure how many frames per second. (Haven’t gotten that far in the manual, LOL) Remember the camera is only a month old. But its pretty fast. So I’ve been getting a good variety of shots, but my framing is weak. I’ve been doing it hand held. This weekend I’ll use my tripod. Try and get a little more consistent.

                • I’d be interested in hearing about your experiences with using a tripod for action shots (remember to turn of stabilization once your camera is on the tripod). I rarely use a tripod (except with my 4X5).

                  • Oh good tip thanks. I plan on doing 2 locations with the tripod and the rest hand held. They are both low shots, shooting upward. about 2 feet off the ground. Plus if anything goes wrong, I can get out of the way faster. 🙂

    • Thanks, Lavinia. I’m sure they help themselves to anything they think is edible. The ones around here, which are really ferrel turkeys, are pretty bold.

  2. Corrales is full of interesting critters and you come in contact with many of them in your activities—very interesting.

  3. It’s interesting to see the discussion that follows your post! 😀 Am sure you can garner a whole lot of more followers if you associate your G+ account to your blog 🙂 And may be with some tweaking in your theme, the widgets in particular. Have a wonderful day Sir!

    • When I had Facebook, I had it associated with my blog, and when I wiped out my FB account it made little difference in the amount of daily hits, and the number of followers actually started increasing after that. I also have my blog associated with my Linkedin account, but, again, I don’t see any traffic from Linkedin. I don’t think my G+ account would do much, since I’m not really active on it. But you have good thoughts and I appreciate them. Really, I just need to spend more time promoting my blog to get more followers. There’s always a balance between time spent on making art, time spent promoting it and time doing other things that have to be done.

      • I see… I agree with what you said about making art & spending time for promoting it as I belong to the Content Developing & Marketing field myself. Actually more than being active on G+, the profile adds to your Author credibility according to Google’s (the most popular search engine, going by the stats) policy & algorithm rules for placing your pages higher in the search results. Plus, your Gravatar profile hardly says anything about yourself, which a G+ can make up for! 🙂

        • I’d have to change my theme to get a G+ widget. I have all the tie ins to the goggle search engine, and I get a lot of traffic from google searches. I’m always fascinated by the google searches that end up on my blog. There’s reasons my gravatar doesn’t say much about me;)

    • Thanks! I keep 101 Proof Wild Turkey on hand it case the snake mistakes me for a rat while feeding her. I did have to use it once to get my 60 pound Blood python to let go of me. I had washed my hands to put the boa back in her cage before putting the python back in her cage after feeding both of them. I didn’t think about the fact that after handling the boa, my hands smelled like rats again, and when I when to pick up the python, she grabbed my hand and started constricting my arm. I poured a little Wild Turkey on her face and she let go of me instantly. I had to get her a new feed box after that because the plastic had absorbed some of the alcohol and still smelled a little like whiskey — she freaked when I tried to put her in the box the next time I fed her.
