Prince Charming

I went out to see if there was water in the irrigation ditch. There was no water in it, but while I was out, I walked over to the clearwater ditch that runs between the irrigation ditch and the river. While I was checking out the dragonflies and other critters hanging out by the water, a bullfrog popped up to see what I was doing. He was very charming.

Balloons on the Rio Grande

45CU8385

There was a mass ascension on Saturday at the Balloon Fiesta, and many of the balloonists “dipped” their gondolas in the Rio Grande as the light breeze blew them northwest from the balloon field. A couple of kayaking clubs were paddling down the river and had to make their way through what at times seemed like a gauntlet of balloons all stacked up together, dipping in the river. The sky was mostly overcast to the east, with low clouds covering the Sandias, creating a dull, gray light that was occasionally broken by strips of bright sunlight when the sun found a slit in the clouds, illuminating the bosque and lighting up the balloons. One balloon few in front of the waining moon as it few over our house on its way to the river.

Crawdad & Chopsticks

DSCF9832

I ended up having both lunch and dinner at Phở 79 yesterday. Dinner included a plate of crawdads in a delicious, spicy sauce. The “crayfish”, as the banner at Phở 79 reads, were so much better than the crawdads that we used to gather up from the puddles when the Rio Grande would dry up during the summer months when I was a kid. In my opinion, Phở 79 is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Albuquerque. They have great food and superb service at very reasonable prices. If you are in the Albuquerque area stop in for lunch or dinner. Phở 79 is on the north side of Candelaria just east of I-25.
