I was reminded that I had photographed carousels in France last year while looking at West517’s post Carousel Magique today. She asked if I had posted any of the photos of carousels. I couldn’t remember, and when I went back and looked, I hadn’t even processed these photos of a carousel in Arles. I found this carousel particularly interesting for both the variety of objects and animals, and how they depict the local cultural events and natural and historical interests of the area. The same day I took these photos, I also got photos of Roman ruins in Arles and wild flamingos on the Rhône Delta.

Tail Wind
As we continue our adventures on the Rhône delta, a cyclist was riding down the the beach at the same time we were driving down. With the nice tail wind, we was able to ride the speed limit all the way to the beach. He was from Switzerland and was riding his bike across southern France on his way to Spain.
Flamingos
Now that we are seeing more Sandhill Cranes, I’m noticing the similarities between the cranes and the wild Flamingos we saw along the Route de la Mer that runs to the Mediterranean Sea on the Rhône delta in May. After looking at the area on Google Maps, it looks like the areas the Flamingos are wading in and flying over are normally dry. It was an unusually wet spring for Provence this year.
France Day 11 Arles Roaming Where The Romans Roamed
We went to Arles yesterday where there is a lot of really well preserved Roman ruins, Arles has a lot of interesting old architecture as does all the old cities in Provence. After Arles, we drove down the Rhone peninsula to a little strip of beach. The area is a large nature preserve with flamingos. The wind blew hard all day and is was really strong on the peninsula — it was so strong that I was having trouble getting clear photos of the flamingos.
