Bella Roma put out a nice bloom that was a little rough around the edges. A Pearl Crescent butterfly was hanging out on a dandelion. A silky cosmos posed in a sea of green, while a peach scarab and bee shared a bloom of a purple butterfly bush. Lastly, a vine dangles in front of a dahlia.
Up close and personal, this cucumber beetle larvae looks like a hyper-spiny ankylosaurus or other prehistoric creature. I don’t know what type of wasp is on the brown eyed Susan, but it’s quite colorful. The last photo is purple cosmos backlit in the early morning light.
Pollock’s title seemed fitting for this curly cosmos.
Sandias, lizard, flowers (SLF). Laurie saw a baby lizard in the leaves under the bonsai stand on the deck. It was really cute and like most young folks these days, seemed to love being photographed as it moved out closer to my macro lens and hammed it up a bit. There was an alert for a missing child in Corrales this afternoon which had the Chanel 7 chopper circling around above us. I drove out to see if there was any action around the fire station, but nothing much was going on, so I drove north and got nice light on the Sandias. There was an alert on our phone when I got back that they found the missing child. Laurie planted a bunch of different flowers that started coming up in July, but the hail storms beat them down to the ground. They finally recovered and we now have a garden full of cosmos and other flowers. The birds and the bees are very happy.
Our yard has gone from a parched desert in the beginning of July, when we had less than 9/10 for an inch of rain for the entire first half of 2013, to a colorful jungle since we have received over 6 inches of rain since the beginning of July. I took the photos just after sunrise, before I spent the day pulling morning glories off of rose bushes and other plants, clearing paths, laying cardboard on the paths and spreading mulch on the cardboard. It’s still a jungle out there, but at least we don’t need a machete to cut our way from one end of the garden to the other.
René was hanging out in a rose bush in front a a fan we use to filter the sun. The scene had a Japanese look to it.
New Mexico has the VLA near Socorro – a very large array of radio telescopes for viewing the cosmos. We have a VSA in our garden – a very small array of cosmos. Speaking of the cosmos, the low sun shining through the clouds on I-40 was quite a scene.
