Dog Day

I went out to photograph an old wood mill in the north valley, and as I got to the top of a rail spur there was a dog gnawing on an old carcass. He was so involved at first that he didn’t notice me. After a few shots, he heard the shutter in my camera and looked up. He was standing his ground and then started coming sideways towards me half snarling and licking his chops. I didn’t push my luck by trying to cross the dog’s path to get down where I could get better shots of the buildings. I got a few shots of the mill from standing on the rail spur and then a shot toward the mountains as I walked back to the car. I presume the dog went back to gnawing the carcass.

France Day 3 Paris & a walk at night

45CU4978

Today we went by the outdoor market on our way to the Rodin Sculpture Garden, Napoleon’s tomb, the Military Museum and Map Museum as part of the class. Then Laurie and I walked to the Cimetière du Montparnasse, found Serge Gainsbourg’s grave, then walked back to the hotel. We walked to a restaurant that specialized in crepes for dinner, which was a mile and a half from the Hotel. The crepes were delicious, and a couple of women sitting at the end of our table gave us a sample of their apple cider, which was really good — it reminded us of Spain. After dinner we walk back to the hotel, which was mostly along Rue Mouffetard. A light rain was falling making the air slightly hazy and the stone streets glisten. One of the stores we walked by had Moulin Rouge Goth style dresses and an ad for a Goth-style model. There were several bars and food places along the walk, and the dog in the second photo was part of the crepe restaurant. I measured our walk on Google Map Pedometer and got 6.5 miles for the day.

Downtown Drive-by

DSCF6630

A costumed crowd was gathered outside the Kimo Theater. I wanted to park and get photos but there were no parking spots available, so I swung around the block and did a drive-by photo at about 10 mph. The sunset was beautiful, but my best opportunity of getting a photo of it was a drive-by at 80 mph on I-40.

Puppy in a Porsche

This Porsche 911 was parked out in front of Cafe Giuseppe this morning with a terrier waiting expectantly in the front seat for its owner. The chopper was parked in front of a really ugly car, so I removed the car.

Dog & Pony…

On my way back from photographing the sunset in the bosque, I stopped to photograph the horses in the soft light at dusk.  My buddy, Turbo, came out to say hi, and wanted to be included in the photo session as well.

Roadrunner Art

I hadn’t seen a roadrunner in our yard in several years. About 20 years ago we were infested with roadrunners. There would be a half dozen or more hanging around in the yard just about any time we went outside. When we were out working in the garden, the roadrunners would surround us, staying about 15 feet away, and walk circles around us, one direction then the other, cocking their heads as the eyed us up one side and down the other. I figured they were sizing us up to determine if they had sufficient numbers to take us down. One year they simply disappeared and I haven’t really seen roadrunners in the yard again until yesterday. I got the photo of the dogs in the back of the truck on our way home tonight.
