Thanks, Teagan! What are you doing up at this hour? I guess you might ask the same for me? Well, Laurie didn’t get the door closed all the way, and Loki got out. So we just spent about an hour out in the dirt and weeds with cat toys and catnip luring Loki in close enough to catch him and get him back inside. We had planned to get to bed before midnight — ha ha ha ha ha! It was a real catdoggle!
Oh gosh! I’m glad you got him. Finding a black cat at night…
The new neighbors woke me. Heavy footsteps running back and forth several times for half an hour at 2 am. Last year a 2 am, a different neighbor a couple doors down in this building had a fire (3 trucks!) So I was afraid… Sleep is probably a lost cause now.
Fortunately we are not close enough to our neighbors to hear them clopping around at all hours of the morning. But we do hear the cars and motorcycles on I-25, and the coyote’s having a yip fest often wakes us up in the middle of the night.
Townhouses are only one or two steps up from apartments for noise issues… I hear the freeway most nights. But also… I’ve heard it a few times during nights… a sound like something huge being dragged down the road. Never see anything. Then I thought it might be on the freeway — overpass a stone’s throw away. Today I think it might actually be big heavy military aircraft, and the sound echoing between all these buildings crammed close together. (Sound can really do funny things in this neighborhood.) Because I’m hearing those planes flying kind of low all this morning. Just another day.
Thanks, Fraggle. When I’m trying to convey the essence of photos taken in almost total darkness, mere feet from black cows with glowing eyes, a poem makes it a little more fun than a plain old explanation.
Hi Tim, I really like the first photo, it sets the mood for your poem perfectly. “Eye Shine” is a great title, they are so bright, the cows look a little frightening and the owl is quite a sight! Have a wonderful Sunday. ~ Mia
Hi Mia. I almost walked into them. Black cows in the dark, plus I wear all black, we didn’t see each other until we were only feet apart, and the cows weren’t going to move.
The narrated photo is great and hilarious too! Please tell me you didn’t really crawl on your belly through the stinky, slimy mud with cuckleburs all over you. How where the cows able to be oblivious to that? Laughing! Gorgeous photos, the cows don’t look frightening during the day, still they are pretty big especially when you’re flat on the ground. Nice one, Tim!
Yes! I did actually crawl through the stinking cocklebur infested. Laurie wasn’t very happy having to be in the car with me on the way home from that outing.
Delightfully creepy, Tim! Love that owl!

Loki is a great name for a cat! I like the poem with the pictures.

Thanks, Mia. The cows are frightening when there is no moon. They are not to be messed with in the dark.
You’re welcome, Tim. You look like you were pretty close to them!

Love it, you’re too funny! I appreciate the photos even more now!
